Sports Roundup XVIII
Sara Courtney

Where we’re going, and where we’ve been, in sports.

This past week:

  • After a string of hard-fought losses, Big Blue Baseball bounced back with three wins in a row over Watchung Hills, Montgomery, and Montclair Kimberley Academy. Two of the three wins were on the road.

  • Big Blue Softball cruised through the opening round of the Somerset Tournament with a blowout 10-0 win over Bound Brook.

  • Big Blue Girls Track competed hard at the Prep Championships and turned in some solid performances. Leah Solomon ‘26 took 2nd place in the pole vault, Liv Murray ‘24 took 3rd in the 1600m, and Pingry finished three runners in the top four in the 3200m event (Kayla Kerr ‘25, Devan Gambello ‘24, and Julia Ronnen ‘26)

  • Big Blue Boys Track secured some big victories at the Prep Championships this weekend! Senior Tom Goydan ’24 won the Pole Vault, Graham Houghton ‘25 won the 100, Ziv Shah ‘25 won the 3200m and Ja’Mar White ‘26 won toe events—the long jump and triple jump.

  • NJ.com #15 Pingry Girls Lacrosse stunned #7 Ridgewood this weekend to improve to 9-4 on the season. Leading scorer Annabelle Mahoney ‘24 added to her season totals with six goals and an assist.

  • NJ.com #3 Pingry Boys Lacrosse has won their last games, including a statement victory last Wednesday over then #4 Westfield in the annual Bristol Bowl and a 15-4 blowout of Watchung Hills to secure the Skyland Conference Championship.

  • Pingry Boys Golf has won six matches over the past two weeks, which includes a team score of 149 against Hillsborough, where Eshaan Golchha ‘24 and Preston Devieux ‘27 each shot an even par 36.

  • Last Wednesday, Pingry Girls Golf avenged last year’s second place conference finish with a 2024 Skyland Conference Championship victory. Rayee Feng ‘26 shot a 3-under 69 to lead Pingry to the title.

  • NJ.com #4 Pingry Boys Tennis captured their fourth straight Somerset County Championship two weekends ago with a gritty short-handed performance.

Coming up:

  • Big Blue Softball will play in the semifinals at Watchung Hills tomorrow May 8.

  • Pingry Boys Tennis will host Rutgers Prep today (May 7) at 4:00pm.
