In a bold artistic pivot away from last year’s crowd-pleasing production of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Pingry’s lower school performing arts team announced that our kindergarteners will present a fully staged adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining.
Lower School Director Dr. Alyssa Johns reassured parents that the production has been thoughtfully modified for younger performers, noting that “the blood elevator scene is now performed using red streamers, and the unsettling psychological isolation has been replaced with a catchy friendship song called, “You Can’t Escape Us, Danny!” and a jazzy group dance number called, “Heeeere’s Johnny!”
“We really wanted something the kids could sink their teeth into emotionally,” said Performing Arts teacher Ms. Erin Strong, who confirmed rehearsals have been “mostly successful” aside from one third-grader method-acting his descent into cabin fever during indoor recess.
