Arts Roundup XVI
Sara Courtney
What’s new, and what’s coming up, in the Arts.
This past week:
- Last week in Lower School Performing Arts, the spring musical, Musicville, kicked off rehearsals. With a cast of 50 students, this promises to be a delightfully must-see show.
- And the newly formed Grades 4 and 5 performance group, Dance Makers, performed a dance about empathy for Lower School 2nd graders last week, prompting Grade 2 to then create short performance scenes about kindness and empathy inspired by the Dance Makers.
- In Visual Arts, check out the brilliant art show, Gardenship, at the Hostetter art gallery, running through April 26. Stop by and see for yourselves, or check out the link to the virtual gallery here.
- In Upper School Dramatic Arts, the senior play, Steel Magnolias, was a resounding success. Performed by the Senior Drama class and held in the Attic Theatre, audiences were wowed by this fantastic production.
- The Balladeers gave a rousing performance at the Middle School morning meeting on Monday, April 8.
Coming up:
- Kindergarten will be traveling to Basking Ridge on April 15 for a special performing arts experience with Grade 9 drama students!
- The Balladeers are busy! They will be participating in a New Jersey Youth Chorus workshop and performance on Saturday, April 13. There will be a 4:30 performance open to the public that day, so stay tuned for upcoming details.
- On Tuesday, April 16, Intergenerational Prom is happening in the dining hall. The Balladeers and Buttondowns will perform for guests followed by an evening of music by the Jazz Ensemble.
- On Wednesday, April 17 the Balladeers will perform their assembly for the school at 9:50 am in the Lower Commons.
- And finally, Short Hills erformers are busy planning lots of groovy ways to celebrate National Dance Week from April 22-26. Stay tuned (and polish your own dance moves, while you’re at it!).
