Tracking the Track Team
Pingry recently received a collection, belonging to Charles Perkins Bailey ’28, of 1920s track and field ribbons, as well as a mounted 8x10 photograph of the 1927-28 Relay Team (seen in the 1928 Blue Book). Specifically, the donation includes one ribbon from 1923, four ribbons from 1925, two ribbons from 1926, and four ribbons from 1927. The collection came from Mr. Bailey’s daughters, Barbara Hollister and Deborah Bailey; this is Ms. Hollister’s second donation to Pingry in five years.
Note: In 1927, the School decided to award a major letter to a single-event man winning 12 points, a two-event man winning 18 points, and a three-event man winning 24 points, and the result was a large squad from which Coach Reed formulated a winning team. Pingry won three out of four meets.
