History
History is much more than a recitation of the facts; it is a way of seeing and making sense of the world around us.
Through diverse source analysis, critical thinking, and complex arguments, students engage with history not just as a record, but a tool for understanding the present. They learn to sift information, consider diverse perspectives, and form logical, ethical conclusions. Beyond understanding the past, these skills empower students to navigate today’s complex world, engage empathetically with all people, and become responsible participants in a democratic society and global community. Ultimately, the expectation of the History Department is that students graduating from Pingry will be informed citizens who think more critically not only about the immediate environment in which they live, but also about the global community of which they are a part.
