Health & Physical Education

The Pingry Health and Physical Education Department is built on the belief that wellness is a skill set to be mastered rather than a requirement to be met. Our program empowers students to cultivate the essential skills necessary for maintaining lifelong emotional, mental, social, and physical well-being.
By fostering a deep understanding of health literacy, our curriculum provides students with the independence to navigate complex wellness topics and prioritize their personal safety. Our goal is to transition students into self-directed learners and critical thinkers who take personal responsibility for their wellness, demonstrating an ability to evaluate risks, practice resistance strategies, and make informed, health-conscious decisions that reflect their developing character.
In the physical realm, the program moves students from foundational movement to becoming the primary architects of their own fitness plans. Students explore the mechanics of muscular strength, cardiovascular conditioning, and the vital recovery pillars of sleep and nutrition. Our unique approach equips students with the scientific knowledge needed to navigate external fitness information and design data-driven programs tailored to their personal goals. Whether in the classroom or the fitness center, the department fosters a positive, energetic environment where students build the self-reliance and advocacy skills required to maintain a balanced, active lifestyle well beyond their years at Pingry.
