Middle School Summer Academic Resources
Summer provides an opportunity for students to continue exploring their interests, strengthen skills, and prepare for the year ahead. Below, families will find optional academic resources from several departments, along with important information about required summer reading for all Middle School students and the required Schoology introduction learning experience for students entering Grade 6.
English Department Summer Reading (All Grade Levels)
The Pingry Middle School English Department believes that reading is an essential part of lifelong learning and personal growth. Summer reading encourages students to continue developing their skills and perspectives beyond the classroom. Detailed, grade-level directions appear on the documents linked below. Please contact Middle School English Department Chair Nadezhda Mims with any questions.

One Community, Many Stories: Advisory Summer Reading (All Grade Levels)
Pingry believes strongly in cultivating a culture of reading. For that reason, in addition to summer reading for English classes, all Middle School students will read an additional book of choice that will be discussed via book talks in their advisories in the fall. While there is no assignment to complete over the summer beyond reading the book, students should enter the year ready to discuss their chosen text. That text is entirely up to students and their families: any book, any genre, any format!
Students who are looking for suggestions based on their interests can contact Middle School Librarian Ms. Felicia Ballard, who will follow up and work with them to find the right fit.
The completion of this choice book for all students in the Middle School is required. Happy reading!
Mathematics Department Summer Assignments
The mathematics materials below provide students with an opportunity to review and strengthen their skills over the summer. Please note that while some review packets are optional, summer assignments for Geometry Honors and Advanced Algebra & Trigonometry Honors are required.
Schoology Introduction Learning Experience (Rising Grade 6 Only)
This summer, all rising Grade 6 students will participate in an online learning experience that will prepare them to use Schoology, our learning management system. This work can be completed remotely, but we have set aside August 18, 2026, for students who wish to come in person and receive support to complete the experience. More information is forthcoming, but families are encouraged to save the date!
Either the in-person August 18 experience or the remote work for students entering Grade 6 is required.
