In the span of just four days, at two major championship meets, Big Blue track & field posted some impressive performances, including several first-place finishes.

On May 20, at the Skyland Conference Championships, comprised of 25 competing schools, Henry Wood '21 placed first overall in the 800 meters (1:56.27) to earn the title of Skyland Conference Champion. He also finished first in the Conference's Valley Division in the 1600 (4:20.34). Ore Shote '21 won the discus (145'10") and took third in the shot put (41'4.5"). Sahdev Patel '21 clinched second in the 3200 (9:54.52), while Tom Goydan '24 took third in the pole vault (11'6").

Thanks to many top finishers at Skylands—including Kyra Li '23, who won the triple jump (32"6.5"), and Christine Guo '22 who took first in the javelin (81'11")—the girls' team secured the Valley B Division title. Big Blue also nailed many second-place finishes: Nubia Gooding '23 in the 100 (13.36) and 200 (27.57) meters, Ryan Davi '21 in the 800 (2:24.73), Alina Irvine '21 in the 1600 (5:27.62) and 3200 (11:50.39), Anika Sinha '24 in the 400 hurdles (1:12.94), and Allie de Asla '22 in the pole vault (9'6").

At the Somerset County Championships on May 24, Henry, who will run for Brown University in the fall, once again earned gold in the 800 (1:57.07), holding off a trio of runners from the winning team Ridge, according to NJ.com (second place was a mere hundredths of a second behind him). Ore, who will join Bowdoin's track & field team next year, took second in the discus (143'5"), leading Big Blue to a seventh-place finish overall (out of 13 teams) at the event. Tom tied for third in the pole vault (11'6").

The girls' team placed sixth, led by Dartmouth-bound Ryan in the 800 (second place, 2:19.42), Kyra in the triple jump (third, 33'7.5"), and Allie in the pole vault (third, 9').

Next up for the team are the Non-Public A Championships on June 11-12.

Congratulations, Big Blue!
