Pingry is pleased to formally announce that Ms. Taunita Stephenson will assume the role of Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for Strategic Initiatives on July 1, 2021.
Ms. Stephenson joined the Pingry community in 2020 as the School's Associate Athletic Director and DEI Coordinator for Athletics. In this role, she has made significant contributions to our community. She has built meaningful relationships and partnerships with students and community members, and alongside DEI Director Gilberto Olvera, has helped lay the foundation for Pingry's multi-faceted DEI strategy; aimed at increasing a sense of belonging for students and community members.
"Pingry has done significant work this past year to better understand the needs of our community, establish and maintain safe spaces, and develop an infrastructure for student-focused support systems that will exist long after the challenges of 2020 and 2021 are somewhat behind us," Ms. Stephenson said. "We've built a foundation, and now, I'm eager to leverage my expertise to support Pingry's uniquely diverse community by thoughtfully taking DEI outreach, assessment, strategy-building, programming, and evaluation to the next level."
Here's more of what she had to say about Pingry's DEI efforts during the 2020-21 school year.
Prior to Pingry, Ms. Stephenson held management positions at several schools and organizations, including the City of Birmingham, Lander University, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), Delaware State University, Grinnell College, and the National Football League. Pingry is certain these past experiences will prove to be deeply meaningful for our community as she enters this new role and helps make the important work of our DEI office and School more visible.
Please join us in congratulating Ms. Stephenson on her new role!
