Music, poetry, and prose celebrated the achievements of black Americans.
One thing is certain: the Buttondowns (Pingry's male a cappella ensemble) like to have fun with their annual concert on the day prior to Thanksgiving Break. From the pre-performance movie, to their concert for the Middle and Upper Schools, to their serenades of audience members, the group delights in entertaining the audience.
For this year's movie, the group put its stamp on the "Whodunit?" format with a murder mystery—who is killing the Buttondowns, one by one? Then, throwing off their shoes and running on stage accompanied by Queen's "We Will Rock You," the Buttondowns performed four songs:
"Sunday Candy" by Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment (Chance the Rapper) (soloists Nolan Baynes '21 and James Wang '20)
"Give Me Love" by Ed Sheeran (soloists Ore Shote '21 and Jared Tiggs '18)
"Just the Way You Are" by Billy Joel (soloists Rajeev Doraswamy '19 and Ian Dugan '19)
"Death of a Bachelor" by Panic! At the Disco (soloist Jonathan Huang '18)
The ensemble expressed its thanks to Ian Dugan '19 for his hard work on the movie, Music Department Chair Dr. Andrew Moore for his leadership and guidance, and Jonathan Huang '18 for his work as Buttondowns president.
