After winning Preps and the Non-Public A Championships last year, among many other accomplishments, Big Blue returns one of its strongest teams in recent history, and looks to once again advance to the Meet of Champions.

Led by captains Josie Jahng '19, Margot Present '19, and Avery Didden '19, this season's team is seven seniors strong and looking to improve upon their winning record last year.

Big Blue took first in the District 3 Tournament, held at Livingston High School on January 21, winning 58 bouts to runner-up Watching Hill's 53.  Jessica Lin '21 won epée and Ameera Ebrahim '21 placed fifth in the same event. Teammates Aubrey Molloy '18 and Alison Lee '20 placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in foil. Overall, the girls' epée squad took first and the foil squad took second.

On the boys' side, Malcolm Fields '18 took first and Michael Sun '19 took seventh, leading the sabre squad a first-place finish, and helping the team to a third-place finish overall. Graham Matthews '18 took first in epée and Apurva Memani '18 took second in foil. The foil squad took third overall.

Melissa Du in the foil competition.

The performances of both teams not only advance them to the NJSIAA state team championships in February, but also qualify the girls' epée and foil squads and the boys' foil and sabre squads for state squad championships. Individual state qualifiers include Jessica, Malcolm, Graham, and Apurva.

Congratulations, Big Blue fencers!
