In 2019, Ms. Featherman began training for one of her greatest challenges, yet — the IRONMAN, or, to be exact, the IRONMAN LAKE PLACID. The IRONMAN is a triathlon of long-distance races, including (in order) a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride, and a marathon 26.22-mile run. Competitors have 17 hours to complete this incredibly difficult one-day sporting event in order to call themselves an "IRONMAN," or, as Ms. Featherman hopes to call herself, an "IRONWOMAN."

Lower School Director Dr. Thu-Nga Morris has been with Pingry for just over a year, and already, our community has felt the positive impacts of her leadership in tremendous ways. As such, The Pingry School is excited to announce that effective July 1, 2021, Dr. Morris has assumed the role of Assistant Head of School for the Short Hills Campus.

Dr. Morris earned her B.A. in Neuroscience from Bowdoin College, a master's degree in Adolescent Education from Pace University, a Master of Education in Private School Leadership from the Klingenstein Program at Teachers College, Columbia University, and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.

Prior to Pingry, Dr. Morris spent five years at St. Edmund's Academy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she served in a variety of roles, including Assistant Head of School, PreS-8; Director of Academics, PreS-8; and Director of the Upper School. Before St. Edmund's, Dr. Morris spent five years as a K-12 science and biotechnology teacher at The Nightingale-Bamford School in New York City, where she held numerous academic and student life roles.

Dr. Morris also earned national recognition after being awarded a University of Pennsylvania-National Association of Independent Schools fellowship to research governance and head of school leadership in independent schools — expertise she employs as a crucial contributing member of the Pingry administrative team and Lower School Director. As Lower School Director and in the wake of COVID-19 and social unrest across the globe, Dr. Morris has done an incredible amount of work to revitalize the Lower School’s culture of joy, optimism, excellence, honor, and inclusion. Along with her faculty and staff team, which she calls “remarkable,” she has inspired curiosity and achievement this year in person and via Pingry Anywhere.

According to a letter from Head of School Matt Levinson announcing this promotion, “In her new role, Dr. Morris will continue the remarkable work she’s accomplished at our Lower School; leading with integrity, infusing the Lower School community with boundless optimism, and inspiring Pingry’s next generation of scholars through her unfaltering focus on best-in-class educational practices.”

Dr. Morris is eager to take on this new role — which will include and expand upon her current responsibilities — and continue serving Pingry in the most meaningful of ways.

“It has been an immense honor for me to serve the Pingry community,” she said. “I am humbled to step into this new role and would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the Lower School community for their extraordinary support during this unprecedented time. I look forward to building on the exceptional talents of the faculty and staff, and helping to lead initiatives that will benefit our youngest learners at the Short Hills Campus.”

Congratulations, again, Dr. Morris!
