Dr. Reid Cottingham Accepts Role as Interim Upper School Director

Dr. Reid CottinghamThe Pingry School is excited to announce that Director of Teaching and Learning K-12 Dr. Reid Cottingham has accepted the position of Interim Upper School Director. She will assume her new role at the close of the 2020-21 school year when current Upper School Director Ananya Chatterji P '25 transitions and continues her journey within our community as a proud Pingry parent.

"Ananya has made such an indelible mark on the School as a whole and on the Upper School in particular, so I hope to continue her amazing work building this community and supporting our students and faculty as they pursue their academic, athletic, artistic, and social lives within our school," Dr. Cottingham said.

Dr. Cottingham, a graduate of Harvard University who earned a Ph.D. in English and American Literature from the University of Chicago, joined Pingry in 2015 and has made a significant positive impact in the community as an Upper School English Teacher, Academic Dean, and Director of Teaching and Learning K-12. Having served as Academic Dean from 2017 to 2020, a mere two years after she arrived at Pingry, she is intimately connected to the Upper School's students, as well as faculty, form deans, administrators, our academic support team, and school counselors.

Prior to Pingry, Dr. Cottingham taught English and American Literature for 13 years at the Marlborough School in Los Angeles where she served as Department Chair. She has also taught English at Bucknell University and Susquehanna University.

"What excites me about this new role is the chance to develop strong and meaningful relationships with Upper School students and our extraordinary faculty and staff," Dr. Cottingham said. "After this tumultuous and stressful pandemic year, I hope to re-energize our Upper School community, to infuse it with optimism for the future."

Congratulations, Dr. Cottingham! We look forward to your continued contributions to Pingry.
