In the midst of a varied career that has, most recently, involved investigating a sitting president, Mr. Goldstein encourages students to do the right thing by examining their underlying motivations when making difficult decisions.
Pingry is pleased to welcome Keith Karsen as the new Head Coach of the Varsity Wrestling Team.
With 25 years of coaching experience, from the novice youth level through the national collegiate level, Mr. Karsen brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to Pingry. Since 2007, he has served as the head wrestling coach at DePaul Catholic High School, and, since 2002, as a physical education teacher at the school as well. A member of the NJSIAA Region 2 Wrestling Executive Board, he has coached four individual New Jersey State Champions, nine finalists, and 24 place winners over the course of his 11 years at DePaul Catholic. Under his leadership, the Spartans were crowned state sectional champions for eight consecutive years (2010-2017), state group champions for four (2014-2017), and district champions from 2013-2017 and again in 2019. Twelve of his student athletes have gone on to NCAA Division I wrestling careers, and others have pursued the sport at top Ivy or Division III schools, including Columbia University, Brown University, and the Naval Academy.
From 1993 to 2012, Mr. Karsen owned and operated Wrestling Plus, a private wrestling and training facility in Pompton Lakes, and currently serves as a supervisor for MetLife Stadium Safety Services. He earned a B.A. in Sociology from Duke University, where he was a four-year varsity wrestler and captain of the team his senior year. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education at Montclair State University.
Director of Athletics Carter Abbott says, "We are so thrilled to bring a coach of Keith Karsen's caliber to Pingry. His record of developing quality wrestlers speaks for itself. Our wrestlers can't wait to work with him!"
Welcome, Coach Karsen!
