As Big Blue readies itself for the fall season, it hopes to improve upon its record last season, during which the team took third in the Metropolitan Independent Football League.
On Sunday, June 9, in the company of families, trustees, administrators, faculty and staff, and friends, the Class of 2019 received their diplomas, turned their tassels, and processed through the doors of Pingry, primed to begin the next phase of their lives.
The school's 140 newest alumni will continue their academic careers at 65 different colleges and universities across the United States—a few will take gap years before doing so.
Among the highlights of the ceremony—Pingry's 158th Commencement Exercises—Board of Trustees Chair Jeff Edwards '78 presented The Cyril and Beatrice Baldwin Pingry Family Citizen of the Year Award to two honorees this year. First, to Ian Shrank '71, a member of the School's Board of Trustees since 2001 and current Vice Chair, whose career and achievements have had a tremendously positive impact on our community. And second, to Pingry's 14th Headmaster—one of Pingry's longest-serving—Nat Conard P '09, '11, whose leadership, pedagogical innovations, and strategic vision have allowed the School to capitalize on its past and current successes, and ensure an even more exciting future.
Pingry Alumni Association President Woody Weldon '91, P '23 presented the Letter-in-Life Award—the highest award given by the PAA to an alumnus or alumna who has earned distinction and achievement in his or her professional life and, by doing so, has brought honor to Pingry—to Dr. Edus H. Warren '77, known as "Hootie." An accomplished scientist and physician, he has dedicated his life to understanding the immunology of cancer and caring for patients with blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.
After paying tribute to the 18 seniors who entered Pingry in Kindergarten and are now members of the "Thirteen Year Club," Headmaster Nat Conard presented Drew Beckmen '19 with the Magistri Laudandi Award, for being the student who champions the greater good and cares the most about helping all succeed. Katerina Deliargyris '19 received The Class of 1902 Emblem Award, for having the greatest amount of school spirit.
Stay tuned for additional highlights from Commencement 2019, including remarks from Headmaster Nat Conard during his 14th and final Pingry Commencement ceremony. Additional highlights will include comments from senior faculty member Miller A. Bugliari '52, Class President Ethan Malzberg '19, Student Body President Andrew Cowen '19, and Valedictorian Felicia Ho '19, as well as a slideshow capturing poignant candids from the day.
Congratulations, Class of 2019. We wish you well. Keep in touch!
