As Big Blue readies itself for the fall season, it hopes to improve upon its record last season, during which the team took third in the Metropolitan Independent Football League.
Laying to rest any question of their talent this spring, following their breakout 2018 season, during which they clinched a state sectional victory, the Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Team, at 14-3, is powerfully positioned for postseason play.
In an April 30 NJ.com article, announcing their #15 state ranking, Brian Deakyne reported that a "red hot Pingry" has "found its groove." Following recent victories over Mount St. Mary (9-7), Bernards (7-6), and Hillsborough (11-8), the team improved a notch in NJ.com's Top 20 list, to #14. Their only losses this season have been to #6 Bridgewater-Raritan, #13 Ridge, and Lawrenceville (not ranked by the NJSIAA). What's more, Big Blue hasn't lost to an NJSIAA opponent since April 2, when they fell to Ridge, 13-6.
Among the team's leading players are captains Olivia Lai '19 and Cathleen Parker '19, who is close to netting her 100th career goal and was named Skyland Conference Player of the Week on April 26. Alyson Feeley '20 received the same honor on April 12. Goalie Allison Hosler '19 has also been critical to their success—in their 15-7 weekend win over Madison, she celebrated her 400th save.
Momentum is on their side as they head into the Somerset County Tournament, the #3 seed. In the quarterfinals on Tuesday, they earned another decisive victory (10-6) over Hillsborough. They will face Ridge in the semifinals on Thursday, and hope to advance to the finals for the second straight year.
Go Big Blue!
