At long last, Pingry honored the Class of 2020—on campus, in-person—during the School's 159th Commencement Exercises.
Coming off a second-place finish in the Skyland Conference Championships on January 27, falling only to the formidable Ridge, the Girls' Varsity Winter Track & Field Team earned a third-place finish at the NJISAA Prep A State Championships last weekend, finishing behind Lawrenceville and Kent Place.
Highlights included Ashleigh Provoost's school record and third-place finish in the shot put (27'-10.5"), and junior Nicole Vanasse's first-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:17.6). Her teammates Ryan Davi '21 and Alina Irvine '21 were right behind her in the event, finishing third (2:27.45) and fourth (2:28.42), respectively. Kierstyn Brown '20 took third in the 55-meter dash (7.57) and Lauren Taylor '20 placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.13). Cathleen Parker '19 placed fourth in the 1600-meter run (5:22.63).
The boys' team, which earned a fourth-place finish, was propelled in part by Joe Shilts '19, who won the 55-meter hurdles (8.05) and took fifth in the 200-meter dash (24.77). Henry Wood '21 placed fourth in the 1600 (4:42).
A mere two days after wrapping up Preps, members of both teams headed to the Varsity Classic on Monday, held at the Armory in New York City. Here, Lauren improved upon her time at Preps to break the school record in the 200-meter dash (26.7). What's more, Nicole won the 1600 meters in new school record of 5:02.95, and Henry placed sixth and ran a PR in the 800-meter run (2:00.40).
Congratulations, Big Blue track & field!
