As Big Blue readies itself for the fall season, it hopes to improve upon its record last season, during which the team took third in the Metropolitan Independent Football League.
At the 2019 U.S. Middle School Team Squash Championships, held at Yale University last weekend, Big Blue had an impressive showing.
The boys' team, seeded to finished between fifth to eighth out of 16 teams in Division 1, defeated Brunswick "B" (CT) and Haverford "B" (PA) to clinch a #7 national ranking. The girls' team, seeded to finish fifth to eight out of 16 teams in Division 2, defeated Lancaster Country Day School (PA), MS 45 (Bronx), and Squash Haven (CT) to earn a #21 national ranking.
For nine years, Pingry's Middle School squash program has competed in this national event; in 2013, the boys' team even won the National Championship. While it was not the highest finish for either team this year, Head Coaches Ramsay Vehslage and Tina Rix-Stout were very proud of their performance. "The tournament involved 89 teams—the largest number ever. The kids played their hearts out all weekend and represented Pingry in style both on and off the court," reported Coach Vehslage.
