As Big Blue readies itself for the fall season, it hopes to improve upon its record last season, during which the team took third in the Metropolitan Independent Football League.
Head Coach: Mike Webster P '24, '24, '27
Highlights from last season:
At the end of the 2018 season (11-8), Big Blue notched its fourth straight NJSIAA Non-Public B Championship title, defeating Immaculata, 10-3. With the victory came the team's fourth consecutive Tournament of Champions appearance (they fell in the quarterfinals to Mountain Lakes). Big Blue graduated eight seniors at the end of the season, including Second Team All-State selection George Enman '18, now playing for Lafayette, and First Team All-State selection Jamie Zusi '18, now playing for the University of Pennsylvania.
What to watch for this season:
• Led by captains Luke Ackerman '19 and Jack Timko '19, the team's primary goal is to be in a position at the end of the season to contend once again for the Non-Public B title.
• Playing in the top division of the Skyland Conference, considered one of the top two conferences in the state, the team has its work cut out for it. "Every game is a challenge," says Coach Webster. Their non-conference schedule is no less forgiving: they will face rival Westfield in the annual Bristol Bowl set for April 9, in addition to south Jersey powerhouse St. Augustine and North Jersey powerhouse Sparta.
• 12 freshmen joining the roster will give the team new energy, complemented by 22 returning upperclassmen.
• Their first regular-season game is scheduled for March 27 against Phillipsburg, at home.
"Our winter workouts have been productive, and with many players competing on Pingry's winter teams, we should have a lot of athletes ready to go for our first practice on Friday, March 1."—Head Coach Mike Webster
