With a new Head Coach and a number of younger players joining the roster, Big Blue is looking to improve on their second-place finish at the Group State Championships last spring.

Last spring was replete with broken school records in both track and field events—not to mention the girls' team narrowly missing a podium finish at the NJSIAA Non-Public A Championships—will their success continue this season?

Big Blue Beat: Boys' Varsity Ice Hockey Team

Head Coach: Scott Garrow

Highlights from last season:
Led by captain George Enman '18 and assistant captain Austin Parsons '18, Big Blue (14-5-1) advanced to the finals of the Skyland Conference Championships last year, where it was edged out by Ridge, 2-0, the only team in the conference to defeat them. Of note, en route to the Skyland finals, they overcame Hunterdon Central in the semifinals, a team that went on to win NJSIAA Public A State Championships. Austin was named New Jersey Devils High School Player of the Month, and Head Coach Scott Garrow was named Skyland Conference Coach of the Year.

What to watch for this season:
• In his third year at the helm, Coach Garrow will lead one of the biggest rosters in recent team history, close to 30 boys, including a solid number of freshmen. Former longtime head coach John Magadini and Jake Ross also assist.

• Captain Matt Keller '19, along with assistant captains Daniel Schnack '19 and Nick Spinelli '19, will fill the leadership gap of the four seniors the team lost to graduation.

• This season, Big Blue is aiming for a Skyland Conference Championship and a state tournament game win.

• Coach Garrow points to goal-tending as key to the team's success—Kevin Parnham '21 and Jake Friedman '21 will vie for the position.

Full-court press:
"The overall strength of this team is that they work tremendously hard and have a lot of depth that other teams don't have—our top two scorers are just sophomores. And our high-end talent is as good or better than other teams in the league. I expect a competitive season."—Head Coach Scott Garrow
