With a new personal record of 18:23—among the fastest times ever run on the famed Holmdel Park cross country course, and the fastest time ever for a Pingry girl—sophomore Nicole Vanasse capped off a stellar cross country season by placing third at the Meet of Champions on Saturday. Chopping more than 20 seconds off an already brisk pace a week earlier when she won the Non-Public "A" State Championship title on the same course (18:45), she finished just 10 seconds behind winner Monica Hebner from Northern Highlands and five seconds behind runner-up Alyssa Aldridge of Mainland. At the same meet last year, she finished 47th. Her third-place finish was the highest ever by a Pingry female cross country runner at Meet of Champions.

Her season isn't over yet. Next weekend, on November 25, she will compete in Nike Cross Country Regionals Northeast, in Wappingers Falls, New York.
