New Head of School Tim Lear made his first official appearance in front of the student body, as this year’s speakers offered their perspectives on “investing in the community.”
These members of the administration, faculty, and staff are leaving Pingry at the conclusion of the 2021-22 school year, and the School thanks them for their years of service.
Judy Baker, Assistant Director of Athletics, is retiring after 31 years.
Alex Bonner, School Store Associate, is leaving Pingry after four years.
Dr. Eric Bulakites, Middle and Upper School French Teacher for two years, is moving to Atlanta to join Emory University as a professor in the French Department. At Pingry, he also advised the Middle School Green Group and French Club.
Dr. Delvin Dinkins, Assistant Head of School for five years, leaves Pingry to become Head of School at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia. He chaired several Pingry committees, including the Academic Committee, Student Safety Advisory Committee, DEI Director Search Committee, Jed Committee (dedicated to mental health), Accreditation Committee, and Student Competencies Committee. Dr. Dinkins also taught American Literature all five years and proposed and taught the new survey course about African American Literature.
Paula Edell, Lower School Nurse and Health Teacher, is retiring after 32 years.
Anthony Gagliardi, a member of the Facilities Team, leaves Pingry after 31 years.
Keara Gordon, Lower School Drama Teacher and director of the fall and spring musicals for five years, leaves Pingry to become a Head Teacher and DEIB Coordinator in the Early Childhood Division of The Elisabeth Morrow School. She has also started an educational consulting business with her husband, Practically Dramatic, LLC.
Victoria “Vicki” Grant, Upper School English Teacher, is retiring after 38 years. Among her many roles at Pingry: English Department Chair; Head of Community Service; coaching JV field hockey, Middle School basketball, and Middle School softball; advisor to the literary magazine Calliope; and designing costumes, props, and set pieces for plays and musicals. She also taught French, German, and Spanish in the Middle School when she arrived at Pingry. Mrs. Grant received The Albert W. Booth Chair for Master Teachers (2001) and Senior Class Faculty Chair (2008). Also in 2008, she and her husband, Chemistry Teacher Tim Grant, were co-dedicatees of the Blue Book.
Jason Haber, Grade 4 Social Studies Teacher and Lower School History Coordinator, is leaving after nine years to teach middle school at Princeton Day School. He received the Herbert F. Hahn Junior Faculty Award in 2017.
Brian La Fontaine, Lower School P.E. Teacher, is retiring after 41 years.
Eleanor “Elie” Lear, Upper School English Teacher, is leaving the faculty after seven years, but will still be a member of the community as a parent and spouse. She also advised The Broken Wreckord (the satirical version of The Pingry Record), Environmental Action Club, Afrofuturism HIRT (Humanities Independent Research Team), and Middle School Green Group.
Matt Levinson, Head of School for three years, leaves Pingry to become Head of School at San Francisco University High School. During his tenure, he led Pingry through the COVID-19 pandemic, a renewed commitment to DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging), the acquisition of the Pottersville Campus, and a restructuring of the School’s approach to student well-being and student wellness, creating a K–12 department.
Sheila Ramirez, Director of Lower School Admissions, is retiring after 26 years. She had fun meeting people from different backgrounds and loved hearing their stories.
Zhaojun Yong, Upper School Math Teacher for three years, is leaving to pursue a doctorate in Math Education. He also coached Freshman Basketball and JV Tennis.
