Lower School Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Arrival and Dismissal Authorization and Locations
The safety of your child(ren) is our top priority. Children will only be dismissed to individuals who have been authorized for pick-up in Veracross. Please review and update your "authorized pick-up person" in Veracross to ensure the appropriate individuals are listed prior to the first day of school. Verbal permission and/or written permission via email will not be adequate for granting authorized pick-up.

Families will use the following drop-off and pick-up locations:

  • Grades K-5 will use the front driveway via Country Day Drive
  • Large carpools (pre-authorized) and buses will use the back driveway via Long Hill Drive

Large Carpool Requests
Each afternoon, 10-12 parking spaces in the back driveway will be reserved for Large Carpools (four or more students required) pick-ups. The procedure has been very successful in previous years, and we hope it will shorten the afternoon front carpool line. Reservations will be on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are interested in reserving a spot for the year, please complete this form. Parents will be informed as soon as the spots have been filled. Remember, morning drop-offs for all cars will remain at the front entrance.

Arrival and Dismissal Etiquette
The Short Hills community is committed to ensuring the safety of students, faculty, and staff. We take great pride in carrying out the Honor Code through our actions, and we rely on all members of our community to respect and adhere to the School’s procedures for drop-off and pick-up.

  • Display your family’s placard prominently on the vehicle’s dashboard. (Placards for vehicles will be provided to families. Families that misplace their placards may print temporary copies here.)
  • The front and back circles support one-way traffic only. Vehicles must use the designated entrances to enter the driveways.
  • Pull all the way up to the bridge or the car in front of you. Children may only exit or enter the passenger side of the vehicle.
  • Do not speed into or out of the front or back circles or on surrounding streets. The speed limit is 10 mph on school grounds.
  • Do not pass the car in front of you or attempt to back up in the driveway. It is a safety hazard for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Do not park your car in the parking lot and walk into the school to pick up your children to avoid the afternoon car line.
  • Be considerate of our neighbors when entering or exiting the campus. Do not block any driveways and drive at a safe and prudent speed.
  • Please keep the Short Hills Campus a “no-idling zone” by turning off your vehicle’s motor when waiting in the car line.
