Professional Development Opportunities
Pingry encourages its teachers to continue growing, supporting their ability to keep up with the latest in best pedagogical practices."Dr. Reid Cottingham, Upper School Director
Pingry cultivates a commitment to life-long learning in our faculty and staff by fostering a culture of intellectual engagement, inquiry, and personal empowerment. We encourage employees to discover professional growth opportunities through conferences and workshops, visits to other schools, summer fellowships, and the pursuit of advanced degrees. To support ongoing personal and professional growth, the following offerings are available to full-time Pingry employees:
- Financial Support for Advanced Degrees
- Endowed Chairs for Teachers
- Plus-One Initiative
- Summer Fellowships
- Conferences and Workshops
Financial Support for Advanced Degrees
All newly hired faculty who hold bachelor’s degrees will continue their education with a master’s or other advanced degree within four years of their start of employment. In turn, Pingry provides full financial support in the form of a loan that the School forgives at a rate of 20% per year for a five-year period (faculty who remain at the School for the full five years receive 100% forgiveness). Currently, approximately 70% of Pingry faculty members have earned a master’s degree or higher and more than 20 of our teachers have earned doctorates.
Endowed Chairs for Teachers
Plus-One Initiative
Pingry encourages teachers to pursue their passions and get to know their students outside the classroom by coaching a team, advising a club, or assisting with a drama production (to name a few examples). In every instance, we encourage teachers to strike a balance between “investing” (trying something new) and “harvesting” (working with an existing passion).
Summer Fellowships
All full-time Pingry faculty members are eligible to apply for summer fellowships, which typically involve a summer project or trip aimed at enhancing their understanding of the subject area they teach. Teachers have the flexibility to propose their own ideas for approval one year in advance of their summer program.
