During the first week of school, all students will receive Pingry-issued devices that have been pre-loaded with school-approved apps and software.
Personal phones and electronic devices should be turned off and must remain in backpacks during school hours. Smartwatches are not permitted unless students have a diagnosed health condition on file with the Health Office stating that they may wear one. Parents who need to communicate with their children should contact the Lower School Office at 973-379-4550. Students may use the telephones located in the Main Office with the permission of their teacher and under the supervision of the administrative staff.
Thank you for your partnership in helping our community maintain a productive learning environment centered on relationships, respect, and responsibility.
Student Headphones Specifications (Grades K–5)
We are excited to kick off an innovative year in Short Hills! Our curriculum incorporates various tools on the school's iPads and Chromebooks that require voice recording and listening capabilities. To prevent headphone sharing, we require students to bring their own set which will remain in school. It is essential that the headphones include an in-line microphone for recording purposes. This year, students will be receiving a new iPad 10th generation, which does not have a built-in 3.5mm headphone jack. If students wish to use their existing wired-headphones, they will require an Apple (or equivalent) USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter. For a new pair of headphones with a USBc cable, consider these options: the Mee Audio KidJamz or Konnao Headphones for about $20.00. Based on our experience, we recommend over-the-ear headphones over earbuds for younger students' comfort and safety. Bluetooth headphones are not recommended.
Charger Specifications (Grades 3–5)
Students need to be able to charge their Pingry devices at home. There will be opportunities to charge devices in school, but those will be dependent on how much use the device gets during the day. Charging at home will require two chargers for every student:
USBc Charger for Ipad 10th Generation iPads
Laptop Approved Backpacks (Grades 3–5)
We recommend a backpack that has a padded laptop insert that can accommodate a 15” device. If a backpack has already been purchased, we suggest using a zippered protective laptop sleeve to help keep your school device safe.
