The School Rocks to 'Schoolhouse Rock Live!'

Students celebrated the 45th anniversary of the award-winning educational cartoon series.

For the Lower School's Spring Musical, students sang and danced their way through Schoolhouse Rock Live! JR to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the cartoon series. The musical promotes education, with songs about math, grammar, history, and more. Lower School drama teacher Keara Gordon directed, with musical direction by Kindergarten teacher Judy Previti and choreography by Cindy McArthur, Director of Summer and Auxiliary Programs, and summer and Lower School auxiliary staff member Heather Denges.

The production team included fifth-grade Student Assistant Director
Hailey Caputo, who shared in an interview that she was excited to try a different aspect of theater.

What do you enjoy about theater?
I like acting and singing. When I was younger, my two sisters and I put on three-woman shows in our home. I've been performing in plays for about five years, including summer productions at the YMCA. This was my second year at Pingry, and I acted in last year's shows.

Why did you want to be an assistant director?
I thought it would be nice to step outside my comfort zone of being onstage and try something new, to see how it works behind the scenes. It was really fun.

What were your responsibilities?
I worked on props, like helping to paint the TV set. I made suggestions, did some dance moves, and made sure I wasn't too bossy!

What were your favorite aspects of the experience?
Creating the props and getting to know the actors better. They're in Grades 3 to 5, so it was great to spend time with them.

What have you learned as an assistant director?
Actors should follow directions, so I will help future directors more, having been there. I will make sure I listen better.

Congratulations to Hailey and the entire cast and crew for a wonderful show!
