Technology Initiative

Goals

Enhanced Learning: To create and maintain a flexible, integrated, technological environment, readily accessible to the Pingry community, enhancing its ability to learn, create, and communicate in the pursuit of academic and personal excellence.

Technological Competency: To ensure that all students have the technological competencies needed for intellectual exploration, individual growth, and critical thinking skills.

Developing Technological Leaders: To afford students the opportunities to enable and inspire them to become technological leaders in our society.

Operational Effectiveness: To acquire and update technology ensuring efficient, effective administration of the school.

Rationale

When technology is flexible and integrated, the inspiration for learning can occur from many sources. For technology to enhance learning, creativity, and communication at Pingry it must be available at all times and must be a seamless part of the educational experience. Universal accessibility to technology will enable all members of the Pingry community to take advantage of its benefits.

Technological competency is a necessity in the rapidly changing society for which Pingry prepares its students to become leaders. Pingry graduates must not only possess technical skills but they must also know how to use them to be more adaptable problem-solvers and life-long learners. Integral to this competence is a critical awareness of the benefits of technology and the moral and ethical issues related to it.

Technology is evolving into a core element of the secondary school curriculum. Pingry must offer a comprehensive course of study in technology to prepare those students with the ability and inclination for continued study at the university level so that they may become leaders in the unfolding technological evolution.

Like other professional organizations, Pingry must use technology to enhance communication, administration, and operations. The school must invest in technology to ensure that there is a technological infrastructure to support its daily operations.

By adopting and enacting the goals set forth above, Pingry will produce graduates who are well equipped for the challenges of the future. In so doing, Pingry can maintain its leadership among all schools, public and private, as it adapts its offerings and operations to the demands of a changing world.

Strategies

Enhance the Pingry curriculum by:
Ensuring that all students develop a fundamental set of technical competencies.
Integrating technology as a tool in all areas of the curriculum.
Offering specific technical courses that interest and prepare students in becoming tomorrow’s technology leaders.

Create a strong and flexible infrastructure that will support the continually changing technological needs of the school.

Establish a hardware and software environment that enhances communication, provides immediate access to information needed for intellectual pursuits, and supports data management and analysis.

Provide high-quality and easily accessible technical support for Pingry students, faculty, and administration.

Develop an active, and always current, Pingry web site exposing the public and alumni to the best that Pingry has to offer.

Create an intranet site, which is accessible only to members of the Pingry community, encouraging vital communication among members of the Pingry administration, faculty, alumni, student, and parent community.

Provide the Pingry faculty with the technical competence that enables them to enhance course content and course management in ways that inspire and support the students. To provide the most effective training, the faculty and staff must have full access to technology, on-going training, and time for learning. In addition, these require a scheduling and financial commitment.
