Philosophy

The proliferation of technology at Pingry has, as its goal, the creation of an environment where technology is a seamless part of the educational experience, available whenever and wherever it is needed. We challenge students to use technology to be more adaptable problem solvers and life-long learners in pursuit of personal achievement and excellence. Integral to this competence is a critical awareness of the benefits of technology and the moral and ethical issues that relate to it. We believe in technology, not for its own sake, but for the role it plays in developing independent thinking and learning in the leaders of tomorrow.

For technology to become an integral part of the curriculum, faculty are provided with the technical competencies that enable them to enhance course content and course management in ways that inspire and support the students. On-going training and technical support are available to all faculty and staff.

Resources

All members of The Pingry School, (administration, faculty, staff, and students) have access to e-mail, the internet, and all the software needed for their computing and telecommunications needs. The most recent version of the Microsoft Office Suite is available on each computer at Pingry. The suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. In addition, Publisher and FrontPage have been installed as part of the standard configuration. Other department specific programs are installed and updated as dictated by department/curriculum needs. Installation of necessary programs also occurs for administration and staff personnel.

Everyone at Pingry are encouraged to make use of Outlook e-mail accounts for communication within the Pingry community, and to utilize their assigned network space as permanent file storage and/or backup. There are many locations around the school where students can access e-mail, complete class assignments, and do research with online data bases and the internet.

Mobile carts of laptops with wireless technology are available for entire classes to work in tandem. Carts providing for the projection of computer applications, DVDs and video are also available to all classrooms. Additionally, multimedia stations consisting of scanners, digital cameras and DVD/CD-RW drives are available for the completion and presentation of assignments or projects for students, faculty, and staff.

Our competent and dedicated technology staff continues to research new technologies. After ensuring that they will remain stable as they operate within our network environment, new technologies will be implemented as the need arises. There is a maintenance plan in place for scheduled upgrading/updating of equipment throughout the school on a regular basis.

All the technology resources at Pingry are aimed at producing graduates who are well equipped for the challenges that await them. Pingry adapts its offerings and operations to the demands of a changing world.
