Acceptable Use Policy
The Pingry School computer network is a comprehensive campus network which enables students, faculty, and staff to communicate, store and share information, and access virtually unlimited resources from the global community. As such, it places a responsibility on all users of the network. Any actions performed or initiated through the Pingry network must reflect honesty and integrity as set forth in the Pingry Honor Code. Students are expected to use technology in a manner respectful of themselves and others at all times.
While communicating on the network both within and beyond the school, students should remember that they are identified as Pingry users and are therefore held to the standards of the School. Further, it is every student’s responsibility not to initiate access to materials on the Internet that are inconsistent with the goals, objectives, and policies of the School.
All use of cell phones, as with all technology, must be of an appropriate nature. To avoid disruptions during the school day (8:15a.m.-3:30p.m.), cell phone use is limited to a student’s free periods. Cell phones may only be used in: the Lower Commons, Upper Commons, Engel Dining Room, or Baldwin Courtyard.
All users are expected to abide by the generally accepted rules of technology behavior in accordance with the Pingry Honor Code, including, but not limited to, the following:
Using the Computer and Network:
I will not connect, disconnect, move, or adjust any equipment and system.
I will not play or download games on any computers here at Pingry at any time.
I will not download illegal software and files (including music files).
I will not send broadcast messages of any kind over the Pingry network.
I will not share passwords with others.
Using e-mail and the Internet:
I am aware that e-mail is not guaranteed to be private.
I am aware that it is a dangerous practice to join chat groups and will not join such a group or give out personal information (name, address, phone, etc.) anywhere on the Internet.
Since all hardware, software, and storage devices are the property of The Pingry School, the School reserves the right to review any material on user accounts.
