Facilities Naming Opportunities

Providing our students with the most current educational resources is critical to preparing them for the world of the 21st century. Pingry’s modernization efforts improve access to technology, provide the most current equipment, incorporate visible learning, create additional collaboration spaces, and improve key athletics facilities.

Lower School Modernization

  • The Theodore M. Corvino Lower School Commons: FUNDED
    In gratitude for Ted Corvino’s 42 years of service to Pingry as a teacher, coach, parent, and administrator, it is only fitting that we create a permanent named space in his honor: The Theodore M. Corvino Lower School Commons. Just as he welcomes his students with a smile every morning at the Short Hills Campus, the Lower School Commons is a warm and welcoming place for our students, families, and visitors.
  • Dining Commons: FUNDED
    The Dining Commons enhances the students’ overall dining experience with new furniture, finishes, lighting and lighting controls, acoustic improvements, and visibility between the dining space and the main commons. Wireless technology and video display improvements enables the room to be transformed into an informal gathering, school meeting, and student work space.

  • Playground: $500,000
    The new playground has tripled in size and enables students to bring their energy and creativity outside. The 25,000 square-feet of space includes: two hard courts (one fenced in and one open) with four-square game lines and portable basketball hoops. Children can enjoy a mini turf-field for free play, all new walkways, a Kindergarten playhouse, a new water fountain, and a wall ball. To expand the playground area, surrounding trees have become an integral part of the playground design. Creative climbing structures provide climbing challenges for all skill levels. A Gravity Cube offers a three-dimensional climber that gives children a unique opportunity to climb up, down, and through an intricate maze of rope cubes. The Pegasus Climber has activity nets for children to navigate through. A Tarantula Climber has horizontal top rings and vertical ladders for another climbing experience. A Ten Spin allows 10 children to play at once. A double slide, spiral slide, and four sets of swings are also included.

  • Gymnasium: $500,000
    The floors will be refinished and the acoustics improved in the Lower School Gymnasium for P.E. class, music and drama performances, assemblies, and other all-school events.

  • Open Hard Court: $100,000
    Offers a large open space (50’ x 60’) for students play tag, kick-ball, soccer, and a variety of other games. Permanent four-square game lines are on the court’s surface and portable basketball hoops allow flexibility.

  • Fenced Hard Court: $100,000
    Offers a large open space (45’ x 65’) with a coated chain-link fence, permanent four-square game lines and plenty of room to run around and play games.

  • Mini-Turf Field: $150,000
    A large area for almost any kind of field sport (lined space is 68’ x 48’)
  • STEAM Center: $750,000
    The STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) Center is intentionally located along the main corridor near the Media Resources Center. It consists of six classrooms and brings the specialized science and arts programs into view so that students can see and learn from the work of their classmates, and faculty and visitors can see the work of the students.

  • First/Second, Third/Fourth, and Fifth Grade Classroom Wings (3): $500,000 each
    Each wing consists of classrooms and a learning commons space for the particular grade(s). Classroom improvements include new flexible furniture to accommodate numerous teaching models (for individual, group, and project learning), lighting, finishes, and building systems to improve classroom comfort controls. Each wing also has increased visibility from classrooms into the shared learning commons to promote passive supervision of student project work and collaborative learning.
  • Kindergarten Suite: $500,000
    The Kindergarten Suite consists of two kindergarten classrooms and a learning commons area. This space also includes a new heated vestibule for coats/boots and dressing, with direct access to the playground. The new learning commons will incorporate various learning stations—including blocks, clay, and painting—for each classroom. It is equipped with built-in cooking equipment and a sink station for classroom baking projects. A small area in the space is dedicated to library materials, and a significant amount of storage is available on all the walls to accommodate the materials required for the kindergarten curriculum.
  • Kindergarten Learning Commons: FUNDED

  • Third/Fourth Grade Learning Commons: FUNDED
    The learning commons areas are key pedagogical improvements in the overall campus modernization plan. These flexible and visible spaces will promote various project work opportunities and student-to-student and student-to-teacher collaboration. Each commons is visible from classrooms so faculty can provide passive supervision to students working in the areas, as well as allow students to see teaching sessions in progress.
  • Music Suite: $200,000
    The upstairs music suite will be home to the music program and will consist of two classrooms, one for K-3 students and the other dedicated to grades 4 and 5. This space will also have an entry lobby leading to the classrooms.
  • First/Second and Fifth Grade Learning Commons: $150,000 each
    Each learning commons is located adjacent to classrooms of a particular grade(s). These spaces are utilized during class time and are available for independent student collaboration. As with other learning commons, these flexible and visible spaces promote various project work opportunities and student-to-student and student-to-teacher collaboration. These spaces are visible from classrooms so faculty can provide passive supervision to students working in the areas, as well as allow students the opportunity to see teaching sessions in progress.

  • Boys’ and Girls’ Locker Rooms (2): $150,000
    The boys’ and girls’ locker rooms are located adjacent to the gymnasium and will provide a designated space for Lower School students to prepare for gym class. The new rooms will provide a variety of locker types to support storage and students’ daily changing needs. The athletics equipment storage area will be improved, and the PE offices will be relocated to improve supervision of the locker rooms.

  • STEAM Center Art Studio (1): FUNDED
    The STEAM Center Art Classroom promotes innovation, engineering, and invention. This specially designed space brings two art classrooms and a storage space together for more flexible usage and it allows two classes to work simultaneously. Special features include a dedicated ceramics area and various work areas for all kinds of 2-D and 3-D mediums. The new design allows for easier access to sculpture equipment and tool usage and a greater ability to make large scale artworks such as murals, collaborative sculptures, and theater sets. This larger studio also opens onto a “maker space”. The maker space houses many different materials (new and recycled) that inspire the imagination of students and teachers. This layout encourages collaboration between various disciplines and grade levels. In addition, there is flexible gallery and display space for critique and exhibition of student work.
  • STEAM Center Labs (3): FUNDED

  • STEAM Center Drama Studio (1): $150,000 each
    Four lab classrooms will be created in the Lower School: three of the lab classrooms will be utilized for science and one classroom will be devoted to drama. These labs will be divided by age group and will allow Pingry to incorporate STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) into the curriculum at the Lower School.
  • Kindergarten Classroom (2 total, 1 funded): $100,000 each
    Modernization of the Kindergarten classrooms allows each to be larger and increases visibility between classrooms and common spaces. This enhances the students’ experiences in the classroom and provides more flexibility for the teachers. The classrooms open into the kindergarten learning commons.
  • Head of the Lower School’s Office: FUNDED
    This prestigious space in the Lower School is occupied each day by the head of the Lower School and provides a place for meetings with faculty, parents, and students.
  • Admission Office: FUNDED
    The admission office is located close to the main entrance of the Lower School. The office is intentionally placed near the new Lower School Commons for meeting, greeting, and queuing visitors.
  • Classrooms (15 total, 10 funded): $50,000 each
    Transforming classrooms involves improving the carpeting, lighting, and storage spaces, as well as providing additional access to technology. It will also include added visibility by building interior windows that face the learning commons spaces, promoting collaborative learning.
  • Language Labs (2): FUNDED
    Two world language labs are utilized by all grades and are strategically located for visibility and accessibility by every student.

Upper School Modernization

Academic

  • Humanities Wing: $2,000,000
    The Humanities Wing will encompass all of the English and foreign language classrooms in the Upper School.
  • STEM Wing: $2,000,000
    The STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) Wing will encompass all of the science, technology, engineering, and math classrooms in the Upper School to promote creativity and collaboration.

  • Science Research Suite: FUNDED
    The biology suite encompasses three state-of-the-art biology lab classrooms, a faculty office, a shared learning commons, and ideally situated storage spaces. The suite serves as a hub for scientific research, instruction, and exploration in an efficiently designed and collaborative setting.
  • Science Learning Commons: $600,000
    This learning commons will be centrally located in the STEM Wing and will include changes to the furniture, finishes, lighting, and stairwells, as well as built-in booths under the stairs for studying.
  • Science Lab Classrooms (7 total, 2 funded): $250,000 each
    The science lab classrooms will enhance features for chemistry and biology classes. They will be equipped with fume hoods; custom millwork; access to gas, electricity, and water; new furniture and science equipment; and, in some cases, freezers that can reach -80°F.
  • General Science Lab Classrooms (3): $200,000 each
    The general science lab classrooms will house physics classes and will provide features that enhance both lecture time and lab time.
  • Collaboration Spaces (3 total, 1 funded): $150,000–$250,000 each
    These rooms are located on the second floor and will be utilized by faculty, staff, and students for collaboration meetings. The rooms will be enclosed and have new finishes and furniture to meet the needs of small-group work. Naming opportunities vary according to size and location of rooms.
  • Harkness Instruction Classrooms (4): FUNDED
    The Harkness rooms will be the largest classrooms in the building and will be located at each corner of the Humanities Wing. The rooms will be surrounded by windows for natural light and will include instructional tables to encourage this seminar-style teaching model.
  • Classrooms (31 total, 8 funded): $50,000 each
    Transforming a classroom creates a better space for student learning and teaching, enables the use of technology, and includes improvements to the furniture, carpeting, lighting, and storage spaces.

Administrative

  • Upper School, Global Programs, Community Service, and College Counseling Suite: $500,000
    This office suite will be located on the main floor of the Upper School and will house the student programming operations of Pingry.
  • Admission, Development, Business and Communications Office Suite: $500,000
    This office suite will be located on the top floor of the Upper School and will house the internal operations of Pingry.
  • Carriage House: $250,000
    The Carriage House is located on the Basking Ridge Campus, near Beinecke House (the headmaster’s home). The Carriage House is utilized as quarters for guests welcomed to the Pingry campus.
  • Faculty Offices (9): $100,000–$150,000 each
    The faculty offices are situated according to department and serve as stations for faculty to meet with students, collaborate with peers, and perform administrative duties.
  • Headmaster’s Office: FUNDED
    The headmaster’s office will be located near the faculty lounge, which will enable the headmaster to be more accessible within the academic culture of Pingry.

Arts

  • Art Gallery: $500,000
    The art gallery is an important space on the Basking Ridge Campus. Located in the Hostetter Arts Center, the gallery showcases work in all media from Pingry students, faculty, alumni, accomplished local artists, and others.
  • Faculty Meeting, Multi-Arts, and Green Room: $150,000
    This space will act as a multi-use room for large groups of faculty and students alike. It will be strategically located near the Attic Theater, Macrae Theater, and Hauser Auditorium to serve as a rehearsal and preparation space for performances.
  • Dance Studio/Multi-Purpose Space: $200,000
    The new dance room will move from the second floor of the Hostetter Arts Center to a new, expanded location on the first floor. This new space will be larger to accommodate more intricate dance routines and will have storage space to house equipment for yoga and dance classes. The room will have a special floor that will allow it to be used for meetings and other events when not in use for dance.
  • Middle School Art Classroom: $250,000
    The Middle School art classroom will be relocated from the second floor of the Hostetter Arts Center to a more accessible and visible location on the first floor. This classroom will have ample space for individual and group work and provide the necessary materials for excellence in the arts.

Community

  • Student Center: FUNDED
    A comprehensive student center will be created at the main entrance of the Basking Ridge Campus. It will be equipped with technology and provide space for collaborative learning and discussion, as well as include a social area, a juice bar, and an outdoor patio.
  • Bookstore: $500,000
    The Bear Pause will be located at the front of the school, near the Student Center, and will serve as a hub for student activity. Additionally, it will offer easy access to visitors, parents, and alumni to show their support for Pingry by purchasing spirit wear and other school-related items and supplies.
  • Learning Commons (4): $500,000 each
    Each learning commons will be located adjacent to classrooms of a specific area of study, and will be a welcoming space for student collaboration as well as a learning area for teachers to hold small classes and meet with students.

  • Lower Commons Courtyard: $400,000
    A courtyard will be added off the Lower Commons to provide an outdoor space for both informal academic collaboration and socialization. It will be equipped with tables and chairs and be available for student, faculty, and staff use.

Environmental

  • Solar Panels: $1,000,000
    This gift will allow Pingry to buy the solar panels (currently rented) located on the roof of the Upper School, which will save money over the long term. This will also ensure that Pingry practices proper environmental stewardship, as the panels generate electricity to meet a significant portion of the school’s demand.
  • Arboretum: $300,000
    Naming the arboretum will launch a project to build and diversify our plant life on campus. This will increase educational opportunities on campus as well as beautify our cross-country path.

Health

  • Health and Counseling Center: $500,000
    The Health and Counseling Center will house the nurses’ offices and a treatment room for eight people, two health classrooms, the safe room, and counseling offices.
  • Counseling Suite: $250,000
    The counseling suite consists of counseling offices and a safe room within the Health and Counseling Center.
  • Nursing Suite: $250,000
    The nursing suite consists of two nurses’ offices, a treatment room, and a dispensary within the Health and Counseling Center.

Athletics Facilities

  • Eight-Lane, 400-Meter Track: FUNDED
    Includes new jump and vaulting pits, an equipment storage unit, and a designated area for discus and shot put, as well as allow for an NCAA soccer pitch
  • Turf Field: $1,000,000
    Includes a new synthetic turf surface for football and lacrosse, a new scoreboard, and goalposts
  • Stadium: FUNDED
    Includes stadium seating and a press box
  • Tennis Court Complex: $500,000
    Consists of the entire 12-court complex
  • North Courts (5 total, 1 funded): $150,000 each
    Consists of tennis courts with seating
  • South Courts (7): $100,000 each
    Consists of tennis courts without seating
  • Spectator Seating (2): $50,000 each
    Provides seating adjacent to the new courts
  • Men’s and Women’s Locker Rooms located in Upper School: $500,000 each
    The men’s and women’s locker rooms will be created in the existing fitness center and will provide a designated area for coaches, faculty, and staff to prepare for practice. The space will be equipped with locker rooms, showers, and bathrooms.
  • Girls’ and Boys’ Locker Rooms located in Upper School (2): $350,000 each
    The girls’ and boys’ locker rooms will be reconstructed for use by athletes from all age groups on the Basking Ridge Campus.
  • Athletics Training Space located in Upper School: FUNDED
    The existing training space will be increased by 60 percent to accommodate additional athletes and provide the proper equipment to ensure that prevention techniques are being taught and injuries are being addressed.
  • Walking/Cross-Country Trail: $250,000
    The cross-country trail spans much of the Pingry campus and is used frequently by athletes of many different sports. This path will be enhanced with proper paving and accessibility to optimize its usage.


Miller A. Bugliari ’52 Athletics Center Facilities

  • Squash Annex: $2,500,000
    Consists of the portion of the building containing the squash courts and viewing areas
  • Sports Arena: FUNDED
    Consists of two large gyms the size of two-and-a-half basketball courts with removable walls that will be the site of all large competitions and sporting events
  • Gymnasiums (2 total, 1 funded): $1,000,000
    Consists of a 10,500 square-foot, air-conditioned space for training and competition in almost every Pingry sport
  • Strength and Conditioning Center: FUNDED
    Houses fitness machines and free weights, concussion prevention training, and open space to integrate plyometrics into training sessions, with a focus on wellness and fitness for all students
  • Field Viewing Terrace: $500,000
    Overlooks the football and lacrosse field and the track and is large enough to host Pingry events and pre-game meetings
  • Lobby/Athletics Hall of Fame: FUNDED
    Consists of the lobby and the Pingry Athletics Hall of Fame
  • Athletics Center Courtyard: FUNDED
    Consists of the entrance to the Athletics Center
  • Squash Viewing and Reception Space: FUNDED
    Consists of a large space that will be a welcoming area in which teams convene prior to competition, and in which fans gather to enjoy watching the sport
  • Squash Courts (8 total, 3 funded): $200,000 each
    Consists of eight international-configured squash courts
  • Entrance/Vestibule: FUNDED
    Consists of a prominent location that will welcome all guests into the Center
  • Changing Rooms: FUNDED
    Consists of a new changing room, each equipped with a shower
  • Office: FUNDED
    Functions as the new athletics department office that will be located at the front of the building
  • Individual Squash Viewing Areas (4 total, 3 funded): $50,000
    Includes stadium seating and will enable additional storage space for squash equipment

Summer Institute for Teachers: $1,000,000
Endows a summer program to continue educating teachers in their fields and ensure that best practices are learned and adopted

Faculty Sabbatical: $750,000
Enables a member of the faculty to take a half-year sabbatical to further his or her professional growth

Summer Curriculum Development Grants: $750,000
Endows grants for 10–20 faculty members each year to study in their areas of expertise for two weeks and develop curriculum

Faculty Mentor: $500,000
Provides an opportunity for a junior faculty member to be mentored by one of his or her experienced colleagues

Faculty Fellowship: $250,000
Recognizes early-career excellence in teaching to encourage faculty members to remain in the profession and provides them with resources to further develop their craft

Faculty Development: $250,000
Promotes professional growth of one faculty member per year, enhancing his or her effectiveness as a teacher and scholar

Faculty Award: $250,000

Partial Scholarship (Lower, Middle, and Upper School): $750,000
Partially endows a financial aid fund for two Pingry scholars in any grade

Athletics Support

Endowed Coaches Position (all sports except Boys’ Varsity Ice Hockey): $250,000 each
Endows a fund for varsity coaches at Pingry that will underwrite their position and pays tribute to the sport

Squash Program Endowment for Equipment: $50,000
Generates $1,500 a year in perpetuity to fund squash equipment such as balls, rackets, and goggles for the courts, and will allow Pingry to invest in new advances and to provide ball machines for individual practice sessions
