Throughout the school year, Pingry students demonstrate their skills through competitions sponsored by state, national, and international organizations. The following is a list of those students who have been recognized for their exceptional efforts.

American Association of Teachers of French



Le Grand Concours, or National French Contest, is a French event in the form of a 60 minute national examination, designed, written, financed, and disseminated by the members of the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF). Its purpose is to help stimulate further interest in the teaching and learning of French and to help identify and reward achievement on the part of both students and teachers.

The mission of the AATG is based on the belief that bringing the language, literatures and cultures of the German-speaking world to all Americans is a vital humanistic endeavor which serves essential national interests. It's the only national individual membership organization dedicated to the advancement and improvement of the language, literature, and culture of the German-speaking countries.

Governor's School of New Jersey (GSNJ)

The Governor's School of New Jersey is a unique summer program committed to meeting the educational needs of artistically or academically talented high school students who have completed their junior year. Emphasis is placed on problem solving of complex issues that exist on a local, state, national, and international level, leadership training, and creative expression though the medium of fine and performing arts. The Governor's School was chartered by Governor Tom Kean in 1983, with the School of the Arts beginning in 1984.

The Knowledge Master Open

The Knowledge Master Open is a challenging, low-cost academic competition in which teams of students compete — nationally and internationally — without leaving their own schools. The KMO began in 1983 with 72 schools; it now annually attracts up to 4,000 schools and 60,000 participants from the U.S. and several foreign lands.

Math League Contest

Math League's 6th, 7th, and 8th grade contests challenge students and schools in interschool league competitions. Students in each league compete for the highest scores, while schools compete for the highest team score: the total of the top 5 scores in each school. These contests encourage a variety of problem-solving skills and methods, to improve students' abilities and understanding of mathematical connections, while having fun!

The National Latin Exam

The National Latin Exam is offered under the joint sponsorship of the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League. More than 123,000 Latin students across the U.S.A., Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Niger, Switzerland, Zimbabwe took the 2002 National Latin Exam. The ACL/NJCL National Latin Exam has been approved by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and placed on the Advisory List of National Contests and Activities for 2002-2003.

New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA)

The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, founded in 1918, is a voluntary, non-profit organization made up of 425 accredited public, private and parochial high schools in the state. The New Jersey Association joining with the other forty nine State Associations constitutes the National Federation of State High School Associations which has represented the best interests of high school athletics since 1920, and today represents 22,000 schools, more than 330,000 coaches, and almost 4.5 million high school athletes.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honor young people in middle level and high school grades for outstanding volunteer service to their communities. Created in 1995 by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the awards constitute the United States' largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteering. Over the past eight years, the program has honored nearly 50,000 young volunteers at the local, state and national level.

Quill and Scroll Society's International Writing, Photo Contest

Quill and Scroll was organized April 10, 1926, by a group of high school advisers for the purpose of encouraging and recognizing individual student achievement in journalism and scholastic publication. Currently enrolled high school students are invited to enter the International Writing, Photo Contest. Awards are made in each of the 12 divisions. Winners will receive Quill and Scroll's National Award Gold Key and, if seniors, are eligible to apply for one of the $500 Edward J. Nell Memorial Scholarships.

St. Michael's College Young Entrepreneur Challenge

The Young Entrepreneur Challenge is an annual competition for high school students with big ideas for businesses with a socially responsible outlook. The Challenge gives students the opportunity to submit a business plan for evaluation by a panel of Saint Michael's business administration faculty, many of whom are former or current entrepreneurs themselves. In keeping with the mission of Saint Michael's, the Challenge emphasizes creating sustainable new enterprises with an eye toward the social impact of the organization. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three plans submitted.  In addition, competition participants applying to Saint Michael's will be considered for a half-tuition scholarship to the College. The Young Entrepreneur Challenge and the awards for students and schools are supported by a generous grant from the Verizon Foundation and Key Bank.
