Admission Procedures for grades k-5

The following steps must be completed before an application will be reviewed by the Admission Committee. All links and updated forms will be available no later than September 2, 2013.


the Admission Application online with application fee prior to applicant’s classroom visit and testing. The non-refundable application fee (which includes testing) is $100. If this application fee presents a hardship for your family, please contact us at so we may assist you immediately. And, please refer to this form to see the questions that are asked within the online application.

Applications are due by the following date:
Grades K–5 - December 18, 2013
Applications submitted after this date will be considered as space allows.

Since part of the application process is a visit by the student, we encourage you to submit your application as early as possible. We can only accommodate a certain number of students per day and our calendar fills up quickly. Upon receipt of the Admission Application, the Admission Office will contact you to schedule the class visit and parent/guardian interview.


Current teacher recommendation forms should be completed no earlier than December for application to Kindergarten through Grade 5. A recommendation from the previous year’s teacher is required for application to grades two through five. Recommendation forms should be sent directly by the writer to our Admission Office.

For Grades 2-5 Only
– Submit the transcript request form which needs to be completed by your current school office in January and sent directly to Pingry.

Transcript of records are due by

– Visitation sessions will be hosted on five mornings: January 24, 25, 31, and February 1 and 7 2014 from 9:00-11:00 am. During these two-hour sessions, kindergarten teachers and admission personnel will observe children in a peer group learning and play experience. You will register for a date within the online application.

Grade 1 – Visitation will be hosted on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 9:00-11:00 am. During these two-hour sessions, teachers will observe children in a classroom setting. You will register for this date within the online application.

Grades 2-5 – A visit should be scheduled after the application has been submitted. Applicants visit with their peer grade. Second grade applicants visit from 8:30 am to 11:50 am. Third, fourth, and fifth grade applicants visit from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Lunch is provided for applicants to grades 2-5.
The Admission Office will contact you to schedule upon receipt of the Admission Application.

Kindergarten – Kindergarten applicants are evaluated individually. After submitting the application form and application fee, please call the Admission Office to set up an appointment. Kindergarten evaluations begin in November.

Grade 1
Applicants are given an in-house evaluation during the class visitation on Saturday morning, March 29, 2014.

Grades 2-5 – Applicants must take the Educational Records Bureau’s (ERB) CTP 4 which is administered at Pingry’s Short Hills Campus.
You will have the opportunity to select a testing date within the online application:

Grade 2:               Saturday, March 29, 2014
                           Noon-2:00 pm

Grades 3, 4 and 5: Saturday, January 25, 2014
                            Saturday, February 1, 2014
                            Noon-2:00 pm (Grade 3 and 4 applicants)
                            Noon-3:00 pm (Grade 5 applicants)


The ISEE will be accepted in lieu of the CTP 4 for applicants to Grade 5 (Pingry code 310315).

Applicants should only take the CTP 4 once within six months. The Pingry School admission office will share testing results with another school upon receipt of a parent/guardian's written request. If an applicant has taken the CTP 4 at their current school, the results will be reflected on their transcript.

Please keep in mind that the deadline to submit your financial aid request form is January 10, 2014.

The Admission Office attempts to make decisions on applications by the following dates:

Kindergarten, Grades 3 and 5 – Second Week of March
Grades 1, 2 and 4 –
Second Week of April
