Alumni
Dear Alumni,
In preparing for the School's 150th anniversary in 2011, I recently decided to re-read The Beginning of Wisdom, written by Herbert F. Hahn in 1961. In the first chapter, I was delighted to learn that the Alumni Association is now in its 115th year of existance! Five days after the death of Dr. Pingry, an alumnus from the class of 1880 wrote a letter to the Editor of the Elizabeth Daily Journal, announcing his idea to form a Pingry Alumni Association as a tribute to the memory of Dr. Pingry. On April 2, 1894, the first meeting was held with 70 Charter Members. Today, The Pingry School boasts over 6,000 alumni who live around the world--all of whom are members of the Pingry Alumni Association.
Throughout the course of each year, the Alumni Relations office holds dozens of events that extend across the nation from California to Boston, from Florida to Martinsville. On campus, we welcome back hundreds of alumni for various sporting events, receptions, and, of course, Reunion and Homecoming. I am certain that the alumni in 1894 could not have predicted how entensive--and important!--their idea would become to the life of the School.
The Alumni Office, led by Jackie Sullivan, is also committed to keeping each and every member of our Alumni Community connected to the Pingry Experience. Keeping you in contact with each other is very important to us and we try to utilize as many vehicles as we can to reach out to you. We also work hard to keep you informed of what is happening at Pingry and with your former classmates, friends, and faculty members. Sources of Pingry Alumni information include our alumni magazine The Pingry Review, our monthly e-newsletter The Pingry Wire, Facebook, and this exciting new web-site.
In the following web-pages you will find information about upcoming alumni events, past events, ways of keeping in touch, and also special programs and awards given each year. You will also be able to update your contact information, nominate a fellow classmate for the Athletic Hall of Fame, and send us your class note(s). Next year, we plan to take our Alumni Directory on-line for you, so that you will have a searchable, up-to-date way of networking and finding your former classmates and friends. Stay tuned for more information on that new development.
The Alumni Office is here to help you however we can--we invite you to use us as a resource and to keep in touch often.
We look forward to hearing from you, and hope to see you at one of our regional events or on campus soon!
Maxima Reverentia Pueris Debetur.
Best Regards,
Melanie P. Hoffmann
