Welcome to Pingry Admission
Thank you for your interest in The Pingry School and for including us in your search for the right school for your child, your family, or yourself. I hope you find our web site informative and that many of your initial questions are answered here as you seek to learn more about our community. While there is certainly a wealth of information on the pages of our site, the best way to experience Pingry is to come and visit our campuses.
From the moment you arrive on campus, you will feel the energy of our community. At Short Hills (K-5), our students will surely greet you with a wave or a warm smile as you pass in the hall, and at Martinsville (6-12) you will be greeted by animated, bustling hallways and student backpacks lining the edge of our Upper Commons—a live tribute to our Honor Code. Our classrooms are exciting learning environments where students and faculty are engaged, challenged, and encouraged. The excellence on our fields, stages, and in our galleries exemplifies the talent we are so fortunate to have within our community.
Pingry seeks to attract curious learners who have the ability and desire to participate in and to learn from our full program, as well as contribute to our school. Our mission is to foster in students a lifelong commitment to intellectual exploration, individual growth, and social responsibility by inspiring and supporting them to strive for academic and personal excellence within an ethical framework that places the highest value on honor and respect for others.
Throughout the admission season, we offer various opportunities to come learn more about Pingry in a formal setting—Open Houses, Information Sessions, and Exploratory Sessions. Please look at the Visit Pingry section of our web site for further information about these events. Families are also more than welcome to contact our offices directly to schedule a tour and school visit. As part of the application process, all students will be required to spend time on the appropriate campus to experience the day of a Pingry student. Please be sure to check our events calendar regularly. There is no better way to get a sense of our community than to be a fan in the stands, a member of our audience, or a guest at an event.
After meeting many wonderful, qualified candidates during each admission cycle, the Admission Committees strive to admit, for each class, the most qualified academic students while creating a diverse community that is balanced in a variety of areas. Our classrooms include children of families new to Pingry, as well as those who have a connection to the school—children of alumni, faculty and staff, as well as siblings of current students. There is a diversity of race, ethnicity, culture, religion, and socioeconomic backgrounds within our school. As a coeducational institution, there are about equal numbers of boys and girls among our approximately 1,060-student population. And, finally, in Middle and Upper School Admission, we look at our applications with an eye to applicants’ interests and talents in a variety of areas including the arts, athletics, leadership, and service. We believe this balance brings a breadth of perspective and strength to our community that enhances the learning experience for all.
When you visit, we encourage you to ask a lot of questions. We want you to know who we are, and we seek to get to know both the applicant and family. This is how we will both determine if Pingry is the right fit.
Thank you again for your interest in Pingry. We all look forward to seeing you on campus and working with you during the admission process. If at any time you have any questions or concerns, please contact us. Best of luck in your search for the right school
