The Pingry boys’ swim team brought home their fourth consecutive NJISAA Prep “A” State Championship trophy following a 335-295 defeat of Lawrenceville at Lavino Field House on February 5. Pingry swimmers won nine of the eleven meet events, and their performances against a deep Lawrenceville team moved Big Blue into the No. 6 spot in The Star-Ledger state rankings.
It is the first time since 1998 that the Pingry boys' and girls' swim teams have won the NJISAA Prep State Championship in the same year.
Four Pingry swimmers won a combined seven individual state prep titles. Sebastian Lutz ’15 owned the freestyle sprints and touched the wall first in both the 50-yard freestyle (21.00) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.15). In recognition of these wins, Sebastian was named the meet’s Most Valuable Swimmer for the "A" Division. His 50-yard freestyle time of 21.00 is currently the fastest time posted in New Jersey this season.
Jamie Finnegan ’15 also captured two individual state prep titles with wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.45) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.76). In the distance event, Dorian Allen ’13 won the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.69).
In addition to these seven individual state titles, Pingry also registered victories in two of the three relays. In the 200-yard medley relay, the Big Blue lineup of Matt Barickman ’14, Jamie Finnegan ’15, Will LaCosta ’13, and Sebastian Lutz ’15 combined for a winning, meet record time of 1:37.41.
