Senior midfielder Brian Costa ’13 has been named the 2012-2013 Gatorade New Jersey Boys Soccer Player of the Year. It marks the first time a boys’ soccer player from Pingry has ever won this prestigious award.

The announcement was made today by Gatorade, in cooperation with USA TODAY High School Sports.

The 5-foot-8, 143-pound midfielder helped Pingry win the NJSIAA Non-Public “A” South Sectional Championship this fall when Big Blue finished at 16-2-5 with the #6 spot in The Star-Ledger state rankings. Pingry ended its season as the top-ranked team in Somerset County and also claimed the Skyland Conference/Delaware Division Championship.

Brian will continue his education and his soccer career this fall at Princeton University.

Now in its 28th year of celebrating the nation’s best high school athletes, the Gatorade Player of the Year Award honors athletic excellence, academic achievement, and personal character.

As the winner of the Gatorade New Jersey Boys Soccer Player of the Year award, Brian now becomes a finalist for the Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award that will be announced in May.

Congratulations, Brian!
