Upper School

While our web site information and printed materials are designed to convey the strength of our curriculum and community, the Pingry experience cannot be adequately described in words. The commitment to excellence in education and character, the energy, talent, and intellect of our students, and the dedication and professionalism of our faculty are qualities that are pervasive at our Upper School and must be experienced first-hand. This commitment is evident not only in our classrooms -- it can be witnessed in the conference period discussions between students and teachers, in the college counseling sessions with our upperclassmen, and in the informal chats within our advisory group meetings.

With our strong focus on academic achievement and high standards of character, the Pingry Upper School is dedicated to developing responsible global citizens and leaders. Students are challenged intellectually and strive for academic and personal excellence. However, we also emphasize the importance of leadership, teamwork, global awareness, acceptance, and -- above all -- character and honor. For more than 80 years, our student-driven Honor Code has touched every aspect of school life, and our alumni often comment that it has guided them beyond Pingry as well.

Our academic curriculum prepares students to perform at the highest level in college and to be leaders in their community. We believe that teaching is not limited to the classroom: students learn through individual research, participation in group discussions, and one-on-one faculty conferences that encourage independent thinking and innovative problem solving. This level of individual attention would not be possible if not for the strength of our Pingry faculty -- both in terms of their expertise in their disciplines and their accessibility to their students. By graduation, Pingry students are fully prepared to succeed in college and to face the world with confidence in their abilities as thinkers and as leaders. For more information, please visit our Curriculum Guide.

Beyond academics, students are encouraged to participate in athletics, clubs, and student organizations in order to explore new interests and hone existing talents. Our Upper School students are also active members of their communities, donating thousands of hours to community service projects each year -- hours beyond the minimum expected of each student. Whether you are interested in the sciences, sports, music, photography, writing, drama, class government, service, diverse cultures -- or all of the above! -- there is an opportunity for you to test the waters or enhance your capabilities at Pingry.

The wealth of opportunities for self-exploration and intellectual growth offered by the Upper School helps foster a lifelong commitment to learning, personal growth, and service. As a result, our students develop the initiative and independence essential for reaching their potential at Pingry and beyond.

I invite you to continue learning more about all that the Pingry Upper School
has to offer, and to contact me if I can be of help to you as a current, new, or prospective Pingry family.

I look forward to seeing you on campus.
