Welcome from the headmaster
Welcome to The Pingry School’s home on the web! You may be here as a current member of our community—a student, an alumnus or alumna, a parent, or a friend—in which case I hope you easily find the information and resources that you need. On the other hand, you may be here because you are contemplating joining our community. If so, whether you are visiting as a prospective student, a parent, or a faculty or staff member, we hope that you find this visit to our virtual campus inviting and informative, that this web site answers many of your questions while perhaps prompting a few more, and that it entices you to explore further by visiting our physical campuses in Short Hills and Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Pingry is known for its long tradition of academic excellence and its commitment to an education that emphasizes honor and character, respect, and service. Building on this nearly 150-year-old foundation, Pingry today is a vibrant learning community dedicated to generating intellectual engagement and fostering honor and character in a diverse and inclusive environment.
Our commitment to intellectual engagement stems from a firm belief that academic rigor alone—simply piling on the work—does not necessarily lead to intellectual growth. It is the quality of thought and discussion, the give and take of an evidence-driven debate, the out of class conversations with a teacher or a fellow student, that lead students to discover or develop their passions and that create lifelong learners and problem-solvers, prepared to contribute as leaders in this global century.
This is the backdrop against which we stake our commitment to diversity. It is a commitment to bringing together the best minds, from a rich breadth of backgrounds and perspectives, to engage with each other in and out of the classroom.
Our student body comes from over 100 New Jersey and Pennsylvania towns and cities, and it comprises young men and women who are eager to embrace the challenges and opportunities that Pingry offers them. They are curious, creative, and involved—in the classroom, on the athletic fields, in the studios, on the stage, and in their communities—and you can see some of their work as you navigate this web site.
Explore Pingry online, see what we have to offer, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions or comments. We look forward to hearing from you, and we look forward to welcoming you on our campuses.
Sincerely,Nathaniel E. ConardHeadmaster
