Led by freshman Jessica Lin, who won the epée competition, Big Blue girls dominated, and the boys' team took third.
In a home game against Belvidere yesterday, four-year varsity starter, two-time co-captain, and leading scorer for the Boys' Varsity Basketball Team Mike Weber '18 notched his 1,000th career point en route to Big Blue's 45-44 victory over the County Seaters. By game's end, he had 14 points and nine rebounds in the win (Mike has been averaging 15.1 points per game this season). A last-second put-back layup by teammate Nate Hefner '18, who finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds, sealed the win.
For the team's season opener against Koinonia on December 15, Mike, a forward, recorded a triple-double with 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists to lead Big Blue to a 77-50 victory, and made NJ.com's list of top 26 individual performances for December.
Last year Mike, who serves as Pingry's Student Body President and also plays for the Boys' Varsity Baseball Team, earned First Team All-Conference and All-County Honorable Mention honors.
"He's been a dominant force in our conference and is recognized as one of the better players by all of the coaches," said Head Coach Jason Murdock. "He has the keen ability to score from the perimeter, as well as in the post. He is a fundamentally sound player who understands the game very well. Mike's drive, dedication, and enthusiasm for the game have been a pleasure to coach."
