Endowed Funds

An essential component of strong academic institutions is a thriving endowment. Financial aid, faculty support, and student prizes provide the income that not only funds a significant portion of the school's annual operating budget but also allows us to attend to those aspects of the Pingry experience that make it so unique.

Pingry adheres to a policy of spending only four percent of the endowment’s liquid assets annually. The remaining assets are reinvested and the principal is never touched. The endowment is a long-term savings and investment account, which provides for the perpetual financial independence of the school.

We are grateful to our alumni, parents, and friends who, since the school's founding, have contributed more than 93 endowed funds, totaling approximately $69 million.

Pingry's current endowment fundraising priorities:

Need-Based Financial Aid

Pingry was not founded solely for the benefit of the elite. Rather, it prides itself on attracting students who are diverse not only in their talents and interests, but also in their cultures, traditions, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Because of this, Pingry has a strong need-based financial aid program, with more than $2.5 million awarded yearly to families with students in kindergarten through grade 12. The objective of Pingry’s financial aid program is to close the gap between what a family can afford and the cost of a Pingry education. Pingry does not offer any academic, arts or athletic scholarships. For the 2008-09 academic year, 125 grants were awarded ranging from $1,850 to $29,850.

Endowment for need-based financial aid has been established over the years by alumni, parents, and friends of the school who were committed to making a Pingry education available to talented students regardless of their financial means.

Gifts may be designated to the following areas:
Pingry’s Scholarship Endowment Fund for general need-based financial aid
A named endowed fund may be established with a minimum gift of $25,000
Previously established endowed scholarship funds serving students that meet specific criteria set forth by the donor
The Miller A. Bugliari Scholarship Fund for the benefit of children of alumni
SEEDS Scholarship Funds permanently endow New Jersey SEEDS (Scholars, Educators, Excellence, Dedication, Success), a statewide program that works with talented students from low-income families of all backgrounds and readies them for the rigors of a private school education. Pingry now enrolls more SEEDS students than any other day or boarding school in the state. For more information on New Jersey SEEDS, go to their website at www.njseeds.org.

Faculty Support

Nowhere are the ideals of Pingry more completely embodied than in its faculty, who give their utmost in the classroom, on the playing fields, and in extracurricular activities. Their devotion to the students is exemplary – without question one of Pingry’s greatest strengths – and they remain the principal reason for the school’s outstanding position in the field of education.

The endowment for faculty support at Pingry affords teachers opportunities for personal and professional growth. Last year, faculty members attended a variety of workshops, seminars, and conferences including the Science National Conference, New York University’s course Modern Jazz, Post 1945 and its Influence on American Culture and Society, and the Rene Clausen Choral School in Moorehead, Minnesota.

The endowment for faculty support also funds the school’s innovative Faculty Mentorship Program, sabbaticals, endowed chairs, a new computer loan fund, a coaches’ training program, and a faculty recruitment fund.

Student Prizes

Endowed student prize funds can be established to endow a student prize which recognizes a student(s) from the senior class each year with specific criteria set forth by the donor. Current prizes include awards for scholarly and/or athletic achievements as well as for students entering a specific college.
