Miller Bugliari Memory Book - Page 24

I played for Miller from 1989-1991 and was a Captain on the 1991 County Championship team.  I was thrilled to learn that Coach is being honored at the banquet.

Like many others, it is difficult to just pick out one or two memories of Coach because there are so many.  From early on, before I ever played for him, I revered Coach simply because his reputation preceded him.

I remember playing soccer for the middle school soccer team and getting nervous when Coach would walk by our practices.  I also remember one of the first coaching lessons I received from Miller was not even in soccer.  He came by one of our lacrosse practices in middle school and demonstrated to us the importance of footwork in defense.  It was a lesson I would get many times playing for Coach in soccer as well.

Early in my sophomore year, following the first ever Varsity game in which I played, Coach was giving his post-game analysis of everyone’s performance.  When he came to me, he told me this was not only the first time but it could have been the last time I would ever see the field as a player for him.  Needless to say, I had some work to do.  I would spend the next 3 years working tirelessly to earn Coach’s respect and approval.  Win or lose, my goal every game was to have Coach’s post-game comment on my performance be a positive one.

There is a reason why so many people stay in touch with Coach long after graduating from Pingry.  It’s because there aren’t many people in life who truly make everyone around them better.  Coach Bugliari is one of those people.

With warm regards,

I played on Miller's first soccer team at Pingry where he was the Head Coach. Fall of 1960 team had a great season and we were in shape....he made sure of that ..none of us had ever conditioned and trained with such a vengeance. I remember we won some games on sheer endurance....as for my place on the team, you gotta love a coach who tells it like it is....early in- pre season training in Sept 1960, Coach turned to me one day after practice and said without missing a beat..." You've got great hands as a goalie....that's why I want you to play halfback.........OK, coach !

Regards, Gordy Sulcer, Class of 1961

Congrats to "Bugs." I had him for biology in 8th (or maybe 7th) grade. (Properly called the Second Form.) He was a great teacher. I was not much of a science student. I also had Mrs. Bugs, before they were married, teach me geography in Fifth Grade (@1965)! The soccer team was great in my upper form years. Not surprisingly, I played football. Please convey my warm regards and congratulations to one of
the greatest Pingrians.....Don Kaufman '71
