Miller Bugliari Memory Book - Page 15

When I was a sophomore, during pre-season practice, Miller had me wearing "spats and the vest." The spats were lead weights of 2-3 pounds that went on each ankle. The vest held 10-15 pounds of lead weights. (It's possible that the passage of time has increased the amount of the weight!) At some point during the practice, we were running laps around the lower field at the Hillside campus. With all the weight that I was carrying, I was running at the back of the pack. As I came close to where he was standing, he asked why I was so far behind. Since I knew better than to blame the weight, I told him that I was tired. He immediately sprinted to catch up with me, and with his face in my face, he screamed, "Tired? You're tired? I'll tell you when you're tired!" Bill Duncan, Class of 1966

This is Scott Alenick, class of '76. I was Miller's soccer manager for the 1975 and '76 seasons. Of course, until the advent of a real (medical) treatment for stomach ulcers came along, all of us managers had to dispense "Doctor" Bugliari's home remedy-Peppermint Lifesavers. Hey, he was a biology teacher after all, so he HAD to know how to treat his own ulcers, didn't he? He had me so convinced that Lifesavers were the only known treatment for ulcers that I actually believed this all the way through medical school, despite some evidence to the contrary! Also, please remind "Bugs" of the time I accidentally drove the soccer equipment golf cart in reverse and smashed it into one of the benches, leaving a nice hole in the side of the cart! Extra Lifesavers were called for after that incident! My congratulations to Miller on his induction into the Soccer Hall of Fame. He certainly deserves it.

Peter Mindnich, '71; played soccer for Miller Dear Miller, A few words cannot sum up what you have meant to me, my family and Pingry School, but I will try. Simply put, your life's work has been a blessing and a gift to every person that you have come into contact with, including me. Your wisdom, guidance, values, caring, camaraderie and sense of humor have had a profoundly positive impact on me. You also taught me many important lessons along the way that have benefited me greatly later in life, and I thank you for that from the bottom of my heart. I am so grateful for the experiences we have shared, and for the fact that we still are able to get together periodically when you are in LA. Congratulations on this great honor which is so well-deserved. The entire Pingry family is so very proud of you! While I will not be present at the dinner, you can be sure I will be cheering you on nevertheless. All the very best to you, Peter

Coach- Unfortunately I will be out of the country the night that you are inducted into the NSCAA Hall of Fame, but I can not imagine that there is a more worthwhile recipient. As a coach, an educator, and a friend you embody a spirit that places you above others and that draws others to you. We (your players, your students and your friends) are all the more fortunate to have been part of your legacy. Congratulations and we raise our glasses in your honor! Peter Warlick
