Well.. that's just a little glimpse into my love for Mr. Bio.  He influenced me like no other during my time at Pingry!  Congratulations on the big award.. I can't think of anyone who could possibly deserve it more.  You have filled my life with hours and hours of laughs and more than anything, have taught me how to be a loyal friend.

I'm sorry I didn't live up to your expectation of me becoming a Biologist.. but i really think that is a better thing for the science world.  :)

My name is Rick Raabe, class of 1975 and co captain of the State & Prep school championship 1974 soccer team that is also a Pingry Hall of Fame team.
I was known as "MadDog" - Miller can fill you in on the gory details.
My fondest memories of Miller were, like many, up in Maine at the illegal soccer camp he run under the name Waganaki. After many years there as a camper I accepted a job (an offer from Miller I couldn't refuse) in the kitchen crew. My kitchen co-workers included the Mayor of Pingry, Martin O'Connor and one Jaime Jackson. As head of the Kitchen Crew and in addition to my $150 salary for the entire 8 weeks I had a rare camp privilege - use of Miller's 15 year old station wagon for an occasional trip into civilization.
On one occasion, due to no fault of my own, while behind the wheel a slight fender bender occurred. Fellow teammate Mark Zashin '75 remains my witness. Upon returning to camp Miller immediately noticed the minor left side and undercarriage damage. Although the car still worked fine, despite a few unusual noises Miller insisted on a full, detailed accounting of the mishap. Upon counsel from then attorney to be Martin O'Connor I told the truth - a red Mustang convertible , with Arizona plates, ran me off the road and I was fortunate to swerve out of harms way and then brake hard, barely grazing a large pine tree.
Miller, although suspicious of this tale but trusting his upcoming season's co captain to be, alerted the Maine state troopers to 'find that red Mustang'. The state troopers are still looking for the Mustang.
At the end of that camp season when I went to get my $150 summer salary from Miller I was instead presented with his estimate of damage repairs (surprise $150 !) for the 15 yr old station wagon and given a firm handshake and reminder that preseason would start in 2 weeks and that I should get a haircut.
This story is retold in various forms whenever Miller & I get together and even his own children know it well. Some 18 yrs later as a married responsible adult I moved my bride to Mountainville in Tewksbury, a stones throw from Miller & Elizabeth's mountain estate. Upon visiting the local general store where Anthony Bugliari worked (and was only a toddler in 1974 the year of the mystery Mustang encounter) I was greeted by Anthony with a hearty Howdy MadDog - Where's that red Mustang ?.

This is a fonder memory that running several laps around the Newark Academy track, in the rain, after beating them 5-1 - allowing the first goal ever by a Pingry team to Newark Academy!

Congrats to Miller for everything he has accomplished and for the positive & lasting impact he has had on the lives of all his players.

Warmest Regards,

MadDog
