Miller Bugliari Memory Book - Page 10

I would like to wish Miller the best. I was not a good athlete but I loved soccer and loved being on the team. I spent time some good time on the pine, recorded touches for Coach, and reported game details to the local papers. It was great. I once even scored a goal in garbage time my senior year. It's amazing the things you remember. My nickname was Ziggy. Michael Zigmont, 1996Coach- Congratulations on a milestone few will ever achieve. Your achievement pales in comparison to the lessons in life you taught each of your players. Many thanks from one of many who listened. – Sincerely, Paul Simson ‘69
Lance Gould, Pingry Class of 1983:
| ||
My name is Tom Johnson. I'm a Pingry graduate (1959) and former faculty member having taught and coached at Pingry from 1966-2001 when I retired to North Carolina. In addition to teaching together at Pingry, Miller and I are both Springfield College graduates. Also, both of us taught Biology and coached varsity sports at Pingry. I have many fond memories of Miller but two in particular I find rather amusing: 1. While I was athletic director at Pingry, I scheduled a night soccer game with Chatham High School at Chatham on their football field. When I told Miller, he wasn't exactly happy. Chatham was a very strong team and Miller hated the thought of playing soccer on a small football field. However, somehow I convinced him the game would be great for Pingry. The night of the game all I heard were complaints from Miller and his assistants about the poor lighting and size of the field. To Miller's surprise,and as I had predicted, Pingry dominated the game- won 3-0 and probably should have won 5-0. That's one of the few times I had one upsmanship on Miller. 2. Each year we had a Back-to-School Day for parents to learn about courses and to meet the teachers. Since one of our sons had a Parents' Weekend at their college on that day, I wasn't able to be at Pingry. Peter Delman taped my presentation for the parents and I gave the tape to another teacher who was going to cover my class. He was going to play it for the parents. It was left on a cart in the Bio room. Somehow Miller thought the tape was his and took it leaving a soccer tape in its place. You can imagine how surprised the parents were when they were shown a soccer tape in a Biology class rather than my presentation. Leave it to Miller! I consider Miller a great friend. We shared many wonderful times together. He still takes the time to call me often to tell me about Pingry and to ask how Joan and I are enjoying retirement in North Carolina. Tom Johnson
