Diversity at Pingry
Our students come from a variety of religious backgrounds, live in 106 different communities, and have attended public, independent and parochial schools before entering Pingry. Currently, 32% of our students identify themselves as students of color. During the admission selection process we are looking for academically focused students who represent a variety of interests, talents and experiences and who will enrich our community through classroom discussions, school events and one on one interactions with their peers.
Multicultural Curriculum Highlights
Pingry students are immersed in the exploration of the history and culture of diverse societies in the classroom through the study of the Civil Rights Movement, women in history, the Aborigines of Australia, immigration to North America, the Inuit of Alaska, the history and social issues of African-Americans, and the roots of western culture derived from the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, among other topics. Lower School students are introduced to and discuss the literary works of Latino, Middle Eastern, African, and Asian authors, noted historians, the memoirs of slaves and Peace Corps workers in other continents, and collections entitled Americans in Dream and Deed and For Your Eyes Only.
In addition, Pingry students learn about and celebrate a wide variety of holidays including, among others, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Chinese New Year, Ramadan, and Diwali.
Pingry students form clubs and organizations related to their various cultures and interests.
