How do I arrange a visit to the school for my child and me?
A visit to the school for both parents and child is a required part of the application process that is scheduled once we receive your child’s application; however, if you are interested in visiting Pingry prior to submitting an application, simply call the appropriate campus.

What is the tuition for The Pingry School? Are there any “hidden costs”?
For the complete description of tuition and additional fees by grade, see Tuition & Financial Aid. Tuition fees are for the 2007-2008 academic year only. Additional fees range from $125-$2,500 depending on grade and student involvement. See below for information on transportation and costs.

Does Pingry offer scholarships or financial aid?
While The Pingry School does not offer academic or athletic scholarships, it does provide financial aid to families on the basis of demonstrated financial need. Pingry awards over $1.6 million in financial aid each year for students enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 12. An application for financial aid will have no bearing on an admission decision. For further information, see Tuition and Financial Aid.

I am not sure if I can afford Pingry or if my family will qualify for financial aid. Is it worth applying?
If you are unsure whether you will qualify for financial aid, you may contact Allison Brunhouse ’00, Assistant Director of Admission for advice. From Pingry’s perspective, if you are unsure if you would qualify for aid, but acknowledge that paying Pingry’s tuition and additional fees will be a financial hardship, you should go ahead and apply for aid. The process is confidential. See Tuition and Financial Aid for more information.

Does Pingry provide transportation?
Although Pingry cannot guarantee transportation, the school makes every effort to honor requests. Towns that are close to Pingry generally provide transportation for their residents. Families who use Pingry transportation can expect an additional cost of about $3,800.

What kind of test must my child take to be considered for admission? Is there a minimum score my child must achieve?
For specific details on which tests satisfy the application testing requirement, see Procedures for Admission. These tests have proven to be an accurate predictor of success for prospective students; however, it is simply not possible – or fair to the applicant – to state that scores must be at a certain level or above. Test scores are only one part of the application; the application in its entirety – teacher recommendations, grades, the visit/interview and the test scores - is reviewed by the Admission Committee when it meets in February. It is important to note that the strength of an individual application will be determined by the strength of the applicant pool.

How many applications do you receive each year?
We do not publish the specific number of applications received per year; however, the ratio of applicants to openings has remained fairly constant at 4 to 1 over recent years.

What is Pingry looking for in a student?
At Pingry, we truly believe in the well-rounded person and each student is encouraged to be involved in all aspects of the school. Therefore, the admission decision largely depends upon the applicant’s ability and desire to participate in our full program, to learn from it, and to contribute to the school.

Does Pingry have a policy that promotes diversity?
The Pingry School admits qualified students of any race, color and national or ethnic origin. School-wide, students come from over 90 different communities throughout central New Jersey and 29% of our students represent ethnicities other than Caucasian. This year, new students are coming to us from 53 different towns and 86 different schools, of which 68% are public and 32% private.

What is a typical class size?
Classes at our Short Hills campus are kept at sixteen children per class. At the Martinsville campus, class size can vary from one student to twenty; however, a typical class has about fifteen students.

How many openings are there?
For a detailed listing of openings by grade, see Procedures for Admission.

What is your age cut-off for kindergarten?
A child must be five by September 1st of the year of kindergarten entry.

If my child is placed on a waitlist, and no opening becomes available, do we have to reapply the following year?
Yes, if your child has been placed in our waiting pool for a particular academic year, he or she must reapply in any subsequent year, as critical information such as teacher recommendations and test scores must be updated.

Are siblings of current Pingry students and Pingry alumni’s children automatically admitted?
While the school recognizes the convenience of having siblings in the same school and values alumni connections to Pingry, each applicant is required to follow the same admission process and is evaluated by the same admission standards.
