Form II Students Hear Firsthand Accounts of Vietnam Era
May 16, 2008
In a hushed Hauser Auditorium, Pingry staff and teachers recalled life during the tumultuous Vietnam War era at the second annual Form II Vietnam War Era Seminar on May 1, 2008. Faculty and staff speakers represented two distinct experiences of young Americans during that timethe experience of serving and that of protesting the war. The group also included someone with an entirely different perspectivea Vietnamese refugee who escaped to America with his family during the fall of Saigon.
Pingry Middle School history teachers Mike Webster and Alice Brown organized the event. Mr. Webster explained, “The purpose of the day was for our students to listen to firsthand accounts of this important part of America’s past.”
After the assembly, the students traveled on a field trip to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Vietnam Era Education Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, where Vietnam veterans led them on a tour.
