Four Students Named Bio Olympiad Semifinalists
April 18, 2007

Seniors Max Horlbeck, Ajay Tungare, Amanda King, and Ben Oakes are semifinalists in the USA Biology Olympiad (USABO). As semifinalists, they will go on to compete for a spot on the USA Biology Olympiad National Team, a four-person team that competes in the International Biology Olympiad.

To become a semifinalist, students must take a two-hour long exam administered in-class. The exam consists of multiple-choice and short-answer questions. The top 20 semifinalists are invited to attend the USABO National Finals. The national finals consist of two weeks of intensive theoretical and practical tutorials, where the students work with leading biologists in the United States.

The USABO is the premier competition in biology in the United States. It focuses on stimulating young scholars' intellectual curiosity and developing their critical thinking skills in biological reasoning. USABO’s mission is to encourage excellence in biology education throughout the United States. The four-tiered competition is open to all U.S. high school students.
