Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholars Dr. Edward J. Bloustein, for whom this Distinguished Scholar award is named, was the seventeenth President of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. He served as President of Rutgers for more than eighteen years and directed the University’s development into one of America’s premier public institutions for undergraduate and graduate education. He was deeply committed to the central role of undergraduate education within a research university, the University's responsibility to encourage participation in public service, and to the value of merit-based scholarships to recognize, support, and promote academic excellence.

Arts, Drama and School Service Awards

Director's Award for Achievement in the Dramatic Arts For their outstanding contribution to Pingry dramatics.

Special Director's Award for Technical Theater This award is given to that senior who has made significant contributions to the drama program in the area of technical theater which can include set design/construction, lighting, sound, and stage managing. The student demonstrates leadership skills in training underclassmen in his or her specific area of expertise.

The Michael E. Popp Photography Prize Awarded annually to that senior who demonstrates excellence in the field of photography. The prize is given in honor of Mr. Michael Popp, whose work in the area of photography inspired countless Pingry students. Mr. Popp was a long time chairman of the Art Department and retired in 1994.

B. Jerry Donahue ’79 Memorial Prize for Fine Arts To be awarded annually to a senior student who has demonstrated continued excellence in an aspect of fine arts and who has most fully developed his or her own individuality and inspired others.

The Barbara Berlin Prize in Art History Given to the student who best exemplifies the love of scholarship and passion for the study of the history of art characterized by Mrs. Berlin. The Elizabeth Allan Smith ’83 Memorial Pingry-Duke Scholariship Awarded annually to a Pingry senior who will attend Duke University the following year and who represents the qualities of openness, scholarship and friendliness, which characterized Lisa at Pingry and Duke.

C.B. Newton Pingry-Princeton Scholarship Prize Established in 1936 in memory of Charles Bertram Newton, headmaster from 1920 to1936 and an alumnus of both institutions, it is awarded yearly to a Pingry graduate who exhibits high personal and academic standards and will enter Princeton. It is a distinct honor to be selected for this scholarship.

The Paul and Sarah Rouslin Excellence in English Award The Paul H. and Sarah Rouslin Award for Excellence in English recognizes a senior whose love of and fascination with the English language is manifested in both outstanding writing ability and in the appreciation and understanding of literature. The award is named in memory of the parents of Sheila Rouslin Welt, the wife of a Pingry alumnus and mother of a current Pingry student.
