In spite of the ominous clouds, the occasional sprinkling of rain, and the report of a deluge to the south, the PSPA optimistically set up the fun fair in the parking lot of the Lower School on Friday, May 30. As the time neared for the gates to open, the Lower School students and their families poured onto the campus, scattering to enjoy the many different games and activities. The theme was “Pingry Goes West,” and the parking lot was transformed into a wild west setting complete with bales of hay, cardboard cacti, and PSPA volunteers in bandanas and cowboy hats.
A DJ provided music and dancing games, stopping once in a while to call, Let me hear you scream! which was met with an enthusiastic response. Moonwalks came in three different sizes and shapes to accommodate all ages. The cake walk was a popular rendition of musical chairs using carpet squares one less than the number of children trying to keep their feet on the cake. Children could take turns milking the cow a cardboard cut out with a rigged udder and plastic milking pails.
All the children enjoyed the variety of activities including nail painting and tattoos, miniature golf, spin art, hoop shoot, and much more. Many of the activities gave tickets which could be redeemed for prizes. The adults were able to relax and watch the festivities in the outdoor saloon, complete with tables, chairs, and plenty of food and drink. The chuck wagon served cotton candy, popcorn, pizza, and soda.
A big Yahoo to the PSPA committee members who set up through the raindrops and had faith that the fair would go as planned. Hats off to Lucille Dedekind, Michelle Haigh, Joy Smith, Lee Anne Lan, Diana Artis, Leslie Pye, Susan Keller, Sarah Holman, Valrie Oser, Laurie Wilkens, Kathy Melligon, Noreen Witte, Mary Margaret Lang, Nora Muller, and Rhoda Murphy. The afternoon was a great success judging by the whoops of laughter from very happy children.
